In the first game, I mained Link because he was my favorite character in the game. In Melee, I started with Link but eventually changed to Roy because I liked playing as him more. In Brawl I switched to Marth because Roy wasn't available anymore but I was still used to his moveset and I continued to main him in SSB4 and will likely still use Marth as my main in Ultimate.
Marth is my primary main, but I also play as Ganondorf, Zelda, and Mr. Game-And-Watch on a regular basis.
My main I guess is Princess Peach. I'm a much more casual player at the game than my brother is, he keeps on talking about combos and teching and I can't follow a word that he says. I can rarely play anywhere close to his level, and usually that's with Princess Peach. She's just the character that I do best with.
I've been a Pikachu main throughout all the smash games XD He's always been consistently good, so I've never felt the need to not use him
I'm a filthy casual but ever since my first experience with Smash in Melee, I've always been a Pikachu main.
In Melee it was Jigglypuff, Ness and Dr. Mario. I main Ness in pretty much every other game, but while I definitely use him the most I love using a different characters each time, in Smash 4 I would use Villager a lot too, and I like Ike, and Cloud.
In Sm4sh I mostly mained Zelda and Corrin, though I also played Ike and Pikachu. I think Corrin is who I'm "best" at but Zelda is my favorite.
I am a more casual player, but I'm best as Luigi. Chose him back in Brawl since he is my favorite character. Also have dabbled in Sonic and ROB in Smash 4, but still best as Luigi. My brother is a Ness main and beats me every time. He also likes Too Link though.
During my time with Brawl, I used Lucas/Ness the most. I couldn't figure out Kirby and never had the time to mess with the other characters outside of Subspace (which I never completed, either).
Ah, someone else who uses Jigglypuff! I admit however, that in my case, I was only good with Jigglypuff in Smash 4, none of the earlier games. And make no mistake, my Smash 4 Jigglypuff is a destroyer of worlds. All felt my calm and and balloony wrath. Many controllers were thrown, many angry words were shouted, while I only smiled and offered to go again. And again. And again. Ganondorf has been a consistent main for me since he was introduced, which really got me into a focus of slow and strong characters. I'm talking about Bowser, Ike, Zelda, Lucas, and especially Mewtwo. Althought I never proved it, I'm convinced that in my prime about 3 years ago, I could almost certainly do fairly well in (though probably not win) a regional or national Smash 4 tournament. You'll never catch me voluntarily playing a fast character, those are my anti-mains. Sonic? Fox? Meta Knight? Captain Falcon? Miss me with all that.
I'm assuming we're talking about Smash 4, so in that case I main a variety of characters (sorry I don't restrict myself to just one): - Zelda - Toon Link - Kirby - Diddy Kong - Mr. Game and Watch G&W is actually really fun to main.
My mains are: Bowser, because he's my main heavy-weight fighter and is so persistent, he will almost never get knocked off the stage. Yoshi, due to his mobility and overall cuteness. And Pikachu, my main light-weight and is super fast and strong (just so you know, I don't spam Thunder). Also, Pokémon. I do play with a bunch of other characters, but those are the three I use the most.
Universally I use Marth the most but I have lost a lot of my competitive touch over the years, I did main Pichu for a time and I might try again in SSB5 Im Okie at Littl' Mac and Robin but lack skills in keeping Mac on stage and Throwing Robin's Tomes/Sword
The only one I have played is the 3DS version, and I was never into the extremely competitive playstyle so... I guess I'm a casual? I have the most fun when I'm playing as Captain Falcon, Robin, Link or Wario. I didn't get any of the DLC stuff but I think I would probably enjoy playing as Corrin as well.
