Yeah that would be interesting though if they could somehow use items in the next few games instead xD

Okay, well my point at least, wasn't to make HMs become TMs completely. I just want them to be deletable because there's no reason they shouldn't be anymore. If you want an example, you might not want to challenge the Sootopolis gym with a move slot taken up by Dive, so you'd replace Dive with something like Thunder, then relearn dive afterwards so you can get out of the city if you don't have Soar.

I just thought of this one scenario.
    1. A Gyarados has both Surf and Dive.
    2. You surf to the middle of the ocean.
    3. You dive to get yourself underwater.
    4. You replace Surf and Dive with two other TMs.
    5. ???

I think that pretty much sums up why they still keep the HMs permanent. One good way around this is by only making HM moves deletable in areas where you can't get stuck. I imagine this would be really difficult for the game developers to make, but with technology increasing rapidly, who knows? xD

I've been reading the whole conversation and I think the best solution would be to just make HM Move's deletable, but make it so that you cant use it on the field unless you have both the HM required to learn it, and the required Gym Badge.

Hmm, I see what you meant about somehow getting HM moves from Wonder Trade. Maybe they could program it so that you can only use it after you gain the HM in game. In X/Y I swear that the gym leaders didn't say anything about "now you can use said HM." Certainly if they stop putting eight HMs they could implement this.
Also, the problem with deleting HMs, well, the game has a feature that you can't delete your last Pokémon that can learn Surf, why not keep that feature? You can delete Surf all you like, but you have to own at least one Pokémon that can learn Surf, and you can only delete Surf if you are in an area that you have a PC nearby or you have Fly or something akin to the Eon Flute.

Now that I think about it, Game Freak are starting to implement things to replace HMs. The Eon Flute is kind of similar to that.

I think the problem with deleting an HM while using it could simply be solved by making HMs undeleteable if the Pokémon is using it. It would make sense, you could just get a text blurb saying "but gyarados's dive/surf is still in use!"

I really think that you should be able to forget HMs. Maybe you could get an item that lets you delete them instead of having to find the move deleter every time you want another move.

I think that Game Freak could code games so the badge is actually the HM that teaches the move. This makes it so you can only teach the HM move when you get the actual badge required to use it!

What has been already brought up multiple times in this discussion is possibly instead of HMs is items. What I really liked about ORAS was the introduction of soaring. If Pokémon is capable of making an item that acts as an alternative to an HM, wouldn't it be kind of pointless not to make more and get rid of HMs entirely? Similarly to how you received the eon flute after the main storyline from an npc, I think that it's entirely possible to remove the nondeleting moves.
