Do you have a least favorite generation? If not, this thread isn't for you. If you do, here's where you tell us why you just don't like it.

Mine is easily Generation 3. From the get go I hated it. After playing it, I didn't hate it, but I certainly did not like it nearly as much as any others. Was some of it carried-over bias? Maybe.

Here's the deal. I played Gold version an insane amount. I maxed the clock, had over 100 level 100s, and a full Pokédex of 251. It was great. Then, Ruby and Sapphire is announced. Awesome, I thought. Let's check this out. Here is where I learned that all of my 251 shall be left behind. Stranded forever, cannot be transferred. It felt like a massive slap in the face to me. Years later I came to understand why, but back then it was never talked about and I didn't know it had anything to do with a re-vamp of the EV and IV system, making old ones incompatible. It was just an insult to me. And as a cherry on the shit sundae I had to buy a new Gameboy? I was pissed and actually quit Pokémon for some time.

Later, I actually played them and got back into Pokémon full force. Perhaps some bias carried over, because even after playing it I didn't like it that much. Or perhaps it didn't, because I went in expecting the worst, and I didn't hate it when I played it, it came out a bit better than I expected. But compared to every other Generation I played, it was not up to par. They relied on trumpets way too fucking much for the music (I guess they were just really impressed with the sound capabilities of the GBA) and the drawn-out Surf routes. Good lord, the water routes. Terrible. Hope you like Tentacool and Wingull, cause there's little variation in what you'll find. I know these are cliche complaints with Ruby and Sapphire, but you know what? They are cliche for a reason. They're both shit that gets old, fast. Also I found few of the characters and gym leaders memorable, and half of the new Pokémon I didn't like.

However, there are things I did like about Gen 3, like the other half of the new Pokémon which I thought were fantastic in design, the additions it made with abilities, and the fact that they remade the originals and doing so in the end didn't abandon all of out old favorites (mostly), even though Fire Red and Leaf Green treated you like a retarded baby and held your hand with all of the tutorials. They're not terrible games by any means, but in my opinion, Gen 3 had the worst Pokémon games overall to date, and I had the least amount of fun playing them compared to any other generation.

So how about you? If you don't really have a least favorite, don't bother. If you do, tell us and more importantly, tell us why. Offend the fans of it with your contrary view! Get it off your chest! I want to hear about it.

While I don't outright hate any of the generations, I have to say the 4th generation is my least favorite out of the 6. Sure, the spinoff games like Mystery Dungeon/Ranger were amazing and HGSS was neat, I just wasn't too much of a fan of the generation as a whole. I was never a fan of the pseudo-3D DS graphics, and Diamond/Pearl weren't that great for me. I also wasn't a fan of most of the 4th generation Pokémon, save for a few such as Giratina and Yanmega. The huge amount of Legendaries was also rather iffy, even though some of them had neat designs.

Platinum did get me liking the 4th gen a lot more, but it's still my least favorite generation to date. If I had to choose another least favorite, though, the 1st gen were rather bland and extremely glitchy compared to the newer ones, but I can't really fault it too much because it did start the whole franchise. The remakes were neat, and I hope we get to see more of the Sevii Isles in future games. Still, compared to today's games, they are tied with the 4th gen for my least favorite.

If I had to list the games from favorite to least favorite, it would go like this: 6 > 5 > 2 > 3 > 1/4

Like Doima, my least favorite is probably gen 3 due to the Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald games. One of my reasons for disliking it was because the first Pokémon game I ever owned myself was a generation 4 game. I started out playing on the DS, and then tried to go back and play a GBA game. The controls frustrated me because I had to get used to using only two buttons rather than the four that were on my DS. The downgrade in graphics might have also thrown me off. I'd played previous generation games, but I'd never actually owned one and had more than a couple of hours to play. I know most would consider this a silly reason to dislike a game, but oh well, it's not my main reason for this generation being my least favorite.

I felt like there were lack of places to train efficiently. In Sapphire/Ruby, you had these Elite Four members whose Pokémon ranged from like 50 - 60 in level, but like hell there were any wild Pokémon at a high enough level to help you get your Pokémon to reach Elite Four levels. Though the feature to re-battle trainers was in the games, the trainers were always in pain in the ass locations- caves, in the ocean, or just in out of the way spots on routes.

Like Doima said, the soundtrack relied too much on the trumpet. I wasn't fond of any of the music- all the tunes sounded too whiny or something. Along with that, I think the games lacked much to do post game. All there really was to do was catch whatever legendaries were left and go to the battle tower. I dunno, I just like when there is a bit to do postgame. For me, Gen 3 lacked in that department.

Lastly, though it may be a silly reason, the die-hard gen 3 fans really turned me away from the generation. Generation 3 is placed on a pedestal above all others games for an unknown reason. Or at least, it's unknown to me. The games lacked a catchy soundtrack, and I thought the Pokédex was pretty shit. The Pokémon were either really strong or really weak. Not really an in between. And then all those annoying water routes, ugh. But yet the fans still squeal over it and sputter "GEN 3 REMAKE!!!!111" Every chance they get. The hardcore fans just really annoy me because it's like they cannot accept someone disliking generation 3.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think the generation 3 games are bad, they just are not one of my favorites. Though I didn't really like them, they did have some features I like. I thoroughly enjoyed the use of Dive in underwater routes. I thought that was a really awesome feature and I'd hoped that they'd bring it back in Gen. 6. Despite the too many water routes, I enjoyed the map over all. The mystery of mirage island kept me coming back from time to time. Though I don't really care if they remake the Ruby/Sapphire games or not, I'd definitely pick it up if they did. Who knows, it might make me like the generation more.

Sadly, I'll have to say Gen I. I was so young when I first played it that I don't even have that much built-up nostalgia for it, not to mention lack of English knowledge and general game-savvyness put me off a bunch of times. Luckily they were pretty straightforward games, but, still.

I've tried playing them again somewhat recently and I discovered I've been spoiled by newer generations. I can't take the slow movements, all the glitches and bugs, how moves don't work the way they should, having to go to the menu to use cut, all the items on the same bag, not being able to catch a Pokémon when your box is full... The list goes on. Of course, for the time, they were really good games. But given the choice to play a Gen I game, or any other Pokémon game, I'd pick the other one.

Unless the Gen I game was the TCG or the Pinball game because those were pretty ok.

Gen 3 is my least favorite. The Pokémon and trainer designs really annoyed me. Especially the female trainer. Just looking at it makes me twitch.

The show really turned me off Gen 3 as well. Ash was so dumb and May and Max really irritated me.

Can I say 2 gens? :s I didn't like gen 3 or 4 that much. Despite not fully liking gen 3 I ended up beating it and went on to gen 4. Around this time though I was totally not into Pokémon at all. I only bought because my sister wanted one and I guess I just ended up playing it too. That might be the reason I really didn't enjoy it much (or maybe it was something lacking in the games..) Not too sure but when gen 5 came out it got me back into Pokémon again. I loved playing bw/bw2 and I thought they did an amazing job compared to gen 3 and 4.

I'm also with Slugkid with gen 1 being my least favorite. Seeing how I grew up with gen 3 and not 1 like a lot of people did gen 1 doesn't have that nostalgia factor. To me its just a game with tons of broken mechanics, glitches, and terrible sprites.

Even though I grew up on Gen 3, Gen 3 would have to be my least favorite. Out of all the Gens, it just seemed to hold my attention the least. And while I loved FRLG, RSE just wasn't that good to me :s

Gen 3. Although I liked the introduction of abilities, the story just seemed so cheesy and bland, to me...even for a Pokémon game. Aqua and Magma just made absolutely no sense, and to be entirely honest, I found it extremely difficult to finish the game. The one and only reason I did, was because I was Livestreaming a Nuzlocke, of Emerald. I have not played it, since.

gen 4 was my least favorite. i think D/P had a forgettable plot, introduced waaaay to many legendaries i wasn't a fan of most of the Pokémon that gen either. on the other hand, i DID really enjoy HGSS so it kinda made up for it. i think as a Pokémon game, everything they did as far as menu mechanics and other stuff (oh perma-run, how i'll miss you) was really top notch and we haven't seen that kind of implementation since. so it kinda redeemed itself for me a bit there. to this day i still haven't gone back to play my diamond game after i first beat it.

like del, i'll rank my favorites: 3>6>5>2>1>4

Gen 5 was my least favourite. Partially because of the addition of Trubbish and Vanillite, but mostly because I feel like a lot of the designs of that generations were just really silly. Timburr and its line are one select bunch that really made me dislike the generation. But in addition to that line, we got another tadpole line (which I VERY much disliked), another rock line, another related-but-not-evolutionarily fighting duo, another praying mantis, another two-phase bear line, another three-phase genderless mechanical line, and then it dawned upon me that gen five was just retreading the same things that previous generations did. And that didn't sit well with me because firstly, many of the designs just seemed silly to me, and secondly because, well, we already had those things. Granted some of their designs were good. I especially like Klinklang, Serperior, Bisharp and Gigalith, in addition to many others. But as someone who founded their experience of Pokémon on Crystal, it took a while to get used to their existence.

I guess generation five has desensitised me to hating new designs right off the bat and taught me that Pokémon are different to what I originally knew them as, and that's been a real help in making me like generation six. It taught me to be more accepting as well as more critical. I now know that I don't dislike Trubbish or Vanillite because they're unimaginative, I dislike them because they're unappealing. I know that while Klinklang's name is quite lazy, I really like the Pokémon itself (and its cry sounds kickass).

But I also dislike generation five because it didn't add any evolutions or pre-evolutions to existing Pokémon. That's one of the things I really like about new generations and gen five didn't do it at all. Hell, generation six only added Sylveon, even if it did introduce mega evolution but those are just other forms. I would have appreciated a different Eeveelution or an evolved form of Dunsparce in generation five, but they weren't keen to do it at all.

Gen. 6. Honestly, I really don't like it very much, it let me down a lot. I was looking forward to X and Y so much, and it really just fell flat for me. Yeah the graphics are nice, the environment is great, but people honestly just shoved stuff so much down my throat and I was just so unentertained by the games that I just don't like it.

First, the story. It was just a copy paste from the previous games except the boss just wants to literally kill everyone besides his team. Reeeaaal original.

Second, shiny hunting. It seems like some people think it's the only point of the game anymore. I don't see how shines are all that great now because EVERYONE has one. I'm not shaming people for hunting shinies but I just don't understand how people can focus on them more than the actual game sometimes. I don't know, I'm just saying shines aren't all there is to Pokémon.

Lastly, the game didn't spark my interest. It seemed rather dull to me, even with all the new things they added in. Just like another run through a game I felt like I already knew.

That's my opinion, agree or disagree.

I'd have to go with Gen I. I started with Gen III of Pokémon, and played Gen I for the first time only a year ago. I was able to make it through the entire game, but I did kind of have to force myself to. The ugly sprites bothered me more than anything else. Some of them didn't look anything like the Pokémon they were trying to represent, and some of them were even just outright creepy. The bugs and the slow movements were extremely annoying. Point is, I just didn't enjoy playing. I know a lot of people love the first generation, and I get that. However, I probably won't be playing them again.

I'm gona go for Gen 3. I have literally never beaten the full game. It was probably the worst generation to me. Too many sea routes, to the point where it became annoying and it probably has my least favorite selection of Pokémon.

I'd say that people shiny hunt so much because once they have beaten the main story line, done everything else to do, that is all that is left. You can't possibly complete the Pokédex yet, the bank hasn't been out. It's pretty much the only thing to do in the game or you just stop playing. I have pretty much all of my teams at level 100, I've done everything else I want to do in the game, so why wouldn't I focus on shinies if I really like them? The chances have been increased but it's still actually pretty hard to find shinies too, it can take weeks. I know some people who have spent a month looking for the same shiny and found nothing where others have found many in one day.

I don't actually think anyone began shiny hunting until they had beaten the game.

Actually, I did. I MM'd for a bit because I couldn't get past the E4, but I found the Dragon Claw TM and taught my Yveltal that, then I destroyed the E4. 8D

Though I got my shiny Eevee which I later evolved into Umbreon after I beat the game.

Back on topic, though...I guess I'd have to say Gen 4, since the only gens I've finished are Gens 4, 5 and 6, and I really enjoyed Gen 5 and 6. Like others think, there were too many legendaries, I didn't really like a lot of the new Pokémon's designs, and the story was just kinda boring to me.

i agree with cobalt though like i think its the lack of post game that kinda killed gen 6 thats why i'm hoping for DLC because i don't care about shiny hunting, it kinda seems like a way to waste time more than anything. the looker missions were fun but other than that there wasn't anything but shiny hunting to do and thats weak post game. gen 6 was so hyped and it was fun and the graphics were phenominal but t kinda fell flat with expectation - they were being held up against b/w/2 which had great post game stuff to do and x/y doesn't really have much going for it and since the shiny rate has been increased, thats what everyones doing nnow, and yeah i get it, cool, but now it seems less special.

To be honest, I don't think they are gona put out DLC for it, it's sad but I really don't think they will. I mean the best DLC we're getting is probably gona the bank and transporter. I see what you mean though, I wouldn't mind if they increased the rates in the next game. I think the lack of roaming legendaries was one of the let downs of the post for me, can be kinda annoying to find them but I enjoy the challenge.

It's all trial and error anyways, I wasn't let down because I knew what to expect. It was pretty obvious to me they weren't gona go all out with the story and postgame since it's their first full 3D game. I'm sure the next game will top it though.

While I like Gen 6 a lot, the post game is incredibly weak, no question about that. I enjoy shiny hunting myself, even with the increased rate it's still a 0.025% chance in a random encounter so it still feels special (also now that people can't generate whatever shiny with Instacheck, thanks Nintendo!), but it's kind of a shame that shiny hunting is all that becomes left to do besides getting Maison high-scores. The games also desperately need a challenge mode, or at the very least a stronger Elite 4 after they are beaten the first time, just like the last few games. These kinds of things are what keeps X and Y from being my favorite games in the series.

The third generation has held my attention least in both forms. My fandom of the anime ended here; it took me only the opening episode to hate May for the ugly little biatch she was. Though don't misunderstand, I did watch more than that before giving up on it and while her attitude did seem to improve she remained unattractive physically. It wasn't just her, the Pokémon of Hoenn were mostly all unattractively designed as were some of the native characters (something that is worsening with the proceeding generations). One positive note I will allow is that though I don't actually remember the words I do remember liking the new motto Jesse and James used.

Believe it or not while I have reset my cartridges several times never have I made it to this generations elite 4. Most of the time I don't even make it far. That's how little it holds the limited attention it can manage to get from me.

A great deal of Pokémon are pretty useless. Like the starter Torchic; there isn't a single need for the fire type until facing the elite four who's uber compensation by being made up almost entirely of trainers who use Pokémon weak to it seems kind of desperate and it's TWO fighting moves aren't learned until levels that far surpass where they are needed. That's pretty poor programming/designing whichever it is.
Another example are the Pokémon Illumise and Volbeat. Cute complimentary pair but neither learns squat past what they are captured with. I figured this out when once I had decided I'd give an Illumise a chance. Why these Pokémon were created is beyond me.

While the father being one of the gym leaders is a unique twist they overall are not very original, in fact the types and order in which you face them are very similar to the second generation. The fighting type gym goes even further by existing on an island.

Then there is May/Brendon, the most horrible and boring rival in the game series. It's always May for me because since they managed to make her even more unattractive as a sprite I always play as Brendon. Anyway for being a more experienced trainer than your character she's incredibly weak and the fact thats she suddenly quits when defeated in Lilycove is just pathetic.

Teams Magma and Aqua are ridiculous and senseless. Expanding the landmass and the water on earth? Oceans are necessary for a planet to be able to sustain life and what exactly was Aqua planning for humans in their water filled earth? Atlantis? At any rate I found both plots idiotic.

The one part of these games that is actually enjoyable and is the one portion of the 4th generation that disappoints me because it makes a joke of it, is the contests. So the fact that it takes longer to get to the contests in Emerald is a peeve of mine.

This has grown to be quite an annoyance for me. The first two generations needed makeovers for their horribly obsolete graphics and glitches. There is absolutely no cause to remake the third.

I'm still done with the anime, I gave several episodes of Sinnoh a shot and though Dawn was better than May I was still not too impressed especially when the turtwig episode turned out to be an exact copy of the Bulbasaur episode.

Just a note to say that I can understand why those who did not grow up with the first two generations wouldn't find it appealing. Just yesterday I turned on my ten year old Yellow cartridge for the first time in a while and apart from being surprised that it was still alive even I found a lot of the older aspects difficult to face such as the bag being able to fill up disallowing the collection of new items. And the thought of facing Sabrina was quite strange being forced to consider that the dark type didn't exist yet. It's saddening to feel that way but I still find it enjoyable.
The graphics would certainly be horrible to those who knew better first. The opposite goes for those who begun with the first two generations. I begun with Yellow and remember when I got Silver how amazing those graphics had once been as a result.

Hmm, my least favorite generation has to be gen 5. It was around this time that I started losing passion for the series in general. I can never seem to get past the 4th gym no matter what I do. >.< People keep saying the storyline is the best and stuff like that, and although I am a really big fan of beautiful plots, I just can't seem to play that long. It can't seem to hook me in, unlike the other generations. Gen 5 seems to have so many great characters and stuff but...and although quite a lot of my favorite Pokémon come from this gen (Audino, Whimsicott, Vanillite), it's not really fun. It felt more like I was working to get the game done, than actually playing it, you know? Heck, even if I started on gen 3, and just back tracked to gens 1 and 2, they were still fun, and not work.

Ah, whatever. In order of most awesome, 4>6>3>2/1>5.
