Windows 10 being rolled out.

Windows 10 is out?
Our computer still runs on Vista...
I don't know, if Windows 10 is free, I might try upgrading the computer (I don't have a clue how, though).
However, if it's free and I find out how to upgrade the computer, I'll probably do it as soon as possible. I don't know why, but I think Vista is getting a bit old...

 

I Didn't get that silly Notification yet! I reserved my upgrade but im still thinking on loooking at those reviews i must have it if it's great.

I got the little notification and kinda accidentally registered for the upgrade, so there's that.

You don't gotta wait for that silly notification. I don't even think you needed to reserve it either (someone let me know if I'm wrong though, cuz I did reserve it).
Just go here and download either the 32bit version or the 64bit version.
I just finished installing mine, and it is looking freshhhhhhh. I'm enjoying it so far, still messing around with it. MUUUUUCH faster than 8.1 though, that's for sure.

10 is free if you have 7 or 8 installed, so there's that.

I'm kind of old school, so I'm keeping track of my W7 OS and installation media. I am, however, getting my free W10 upgrade simply because it supposedly has a much better DirectX usage and other features friendly for gaming. If I don't like those then I'm totally going back to W7 where I am right now.

I'm buying a new laptop when back-to-school deals come around, and it will almost certainly come with a W10 installation default. But if I don't like it, I will have no qualms whatsoever with formatting it and getting some Ubuntu up in that thang.

 

Personally, I'm waiting on reviews and reactions towards Windows 10. I like my PC as it is, so it worries me to see if it potentially ruins my experience. I want to see if it's really worth it or not to make the upgrade, but with what I'm hearing so far, I might be soon!

 

I'm an early adopter of Windows 10 as well. So far Windows 10 is pretty good, with more manageable Start menu and all. Even though I'm not fond of white title bars and possible bugs, I still find it much better than 8.1.

 

I ran the various Technical/Insider Preview builds on my laptop, both as virtual machines in VirtualBox hosted by Windows 7, and as the host OS at various points in time. Running 10 as the host OS caused me to be constantly kicked off of my WiFi (Broadcom 802.11n internal mini PCI-E adapter), and I couldn't seem to solve the problem, so I went back to 7 on my laptop, until I can figure some other solution out.

On my secondary desktop, from 2006, GWX initially claimed that it could run Windows 10, then suddenly claimed my video adapter is "not compatible". I upgraded the desktop to Windows 10 anyway, by creating installation media via the Media Creation Tool. The installation actually went quite well, although I had to download the video drivers separately, from NVIDIA's site (the latest OS supported is the original Windows 8 for my GPU model). With that taken care of, Windows 10 actually runs quite well on such an old system (originally having shipped with XP MCE 2005, then was later upgraded to Windows 7, which is how I was able to take advantage of the free upgrade). Despite some of the shortcomings (such as faulty drivers and updates being forced on you), 10 beats Windows 8.x by a mile as far as usability goes.

 

I actually reserved Windows 10 before it came out. It was supposed to give me a notification for when it would download and when it would be finished.
