Like the Arctic Fox, Umbreon tend to turn white in snowy climates, better suiting them for the cold weather and avoiding potential predators! This adaptation gives it greater speed and defense, but sacrifices what little offensive capabilities it has in warmer climates.

Ribombee hid its arms in its scarf and now uses it as arms. The ice that grew on it made it a Bug/Ice type. It also has stronger wings, because the ice is a bit heavy.

They are believed to be the original form of Flygon, alive during the Ice Age period. They have developed some fur to shield them from cold winds. Along with their fur, they have also developed toe claws, which they use for scaling icy and rocky terrain. Their wings are made of paper-thin sheets of ice, created from freezing the water vapors in the air. Due to how fragile their wings are, they are actually flightless. Rather than using their wings for achieving flight, they will use them for combat instead, breaking off pieces of their wings and wielding the shards like knives. Due to the scarcity of food in their habitats, they will eat almost anything. They are known for saving up a large amount of food and eating it all at once, so that they can go weeks until their next meal.

As the mountainous areas of the Pokémon world cool down, these elusive Skitty leave their dens to hunt their favorite prey- Ratatta. They have been known to be very friendly to normal Skitty, but when with other unfamiliar Lynx-Skitty, they may erupt into ferocious battles. They are known to be more defensive than their domestic, pink cousins, and are usually slower. Perhaps their thick fur coat is the culprit...
Evolves into a regular Delcatty when exposed to a Moon Stone.

Here's a wintery Riolu!

Retention Pokémon
Type: Fighting
Evolution: Evolves into Arctic form Lucario (Fighting/Ice) by leveling up with high happiness in snowy weather or hail.
Abilities: Steadfast, Camouflage, Prankster (hidden)
Info: It circulates aura effectively inside of its body to manipulate it's body temperature. It keeps its aura sensors pressed against its head to keep them warm and prevent frostbite.

A regional variant of Riolu found in arctic regions. After being exposed to extremely low temperatures for extended periods of time, a basic Riolu will change form into Arctic Riolu. If brought from an arctic region to a warmer region, it will shed its winter coat and revert back to a basic Riolu. When transitioning between forms, a Riolu with the Inner Focus ability will change to have Camouflage, and vice versa.

Its moveset it very similar to a normal form Riolu, although it learns Ice Punch in place of Force Palm at level 15 and Aurora Beam in place of Screech at level 24.


Design explanation: Aesthetically based on a child dressed to play out in the snow, also meant to be something like a ninja living in a snowy region. The fur on its chest and the ruff around its neck have grown longer, resembling a vest and scarf. The fur colors on the face inverted, giving it the appearance of a ski mask. The sensors on the side of its face wrapped around the back of the head to the base of the neck, using body heat to keep them warm and giving them the appearance of a hood on a winter coat. The extra layers of fur around each of the paws resemble boots and gloves. The fur on the tail also became longer and the color change makes it resemble the tail of a husky. Most of the blue fur has lightened to being almost white, so the dark grey and white together work as camouflage.

I might make the Lucario variant next year if there's another contest like this.

Type: Ice/Fairy
Ability: Speed Boost / Aftermath
Lore: While a pack of woopers were living in a cold lake, a dangerous blizzard came and chilled the lake even further. The woopers evolved because of this freak blizzard, and now live around frozen/extremely cold lakes. They will often pretend to be an ice sculpture and wait for travelers to show up, and then they come and play with the traveler, hoping they'll get food. They often get mad if refused food, and will try and find a way to push the traveler into the water.
