Have you ever had your wisdom teeth taken out? How was your experience during your operation (though I'm assuming most people had laughing gas used on them or were put to sleep) as well as post surgery? How long did it take you to recover?

Personally I've been told I didn't need my wisdom teeth taken out which was a huge sigh of relief. They've all grown and fit nicely so I'm thankful for having as good teeth as I do, given that I'm terrified of dentists especially ahhhh. Give me 20 shots over a wisdom tooth extraction any day.

Oh! Over the summer, I had all four of mine taken out. They were impacted. I was put under (Asleep).

So, they began by hooking me up to the machines, and to the IV. Initially, I didn't feel anything but the prick of the needle, and then they gave me the anesthesia. After about ten seconds, they asked "Is it working?" and I began laughing uncontrollably before passing out instantly.

I woke up in excruciating pain. Getting those pulled was the worst thing I had ever felt, and it took me two weeks to recover. I ate nothing but soft foods and soups. It's the worst experience in my life, by far. They've healed by now, and I'm happy that it's over. Don't listen to what anybody says.

It is not fun. It's painful. Very painful. T_T

Thankfully, my wisdom teeth aren't coming in. After all the money my family's spent and pain and hell my mouth has given me, it'll at least spare me that much.

Bleh, I was told I needed to get my wisdom teeth out like 9 years ago. They haven't given me much trouble, especially not recently, but I'm deathly afraid of getting them removed, because I have TMJ. I've heard plenty of horror stories of people with TMJ getting their wisdom teeth removed...

Basically, because I have TMJ I kind of have to manipulate my jaw to get it open... if I was down and out, and couldn't open my jaw myself, I hear they may need to break it open and stitch it back closed when they're done. Obviously that alone sounds terrifying, but I've heard plenty of people say their dentist re-connected the jaw incorrectly, causing their jaw issues to be much worse, some not even able to open their mouth anymore...

Just thinking about it makes me want to cry. :( I haven't visited a dentist in years because I'm afraid they'll tell me I have to do this operation. I haven't experienced any pain or discomfort from my wisdom teeth as of late, anyway, so I have just avoided dentists like the plague.

I don't have to get my wisdom teeth pulled out. I'm glad I don't have to get them pulled out because of all the stories everyone is telling me.

Mine are still inside of my mouth, and I want them to stay there. Anything that involves pain I would rather avoid (although at some times I seem to attract pain :/ )

I've been told I need to get them all removed, but I've already had to have dental surgery once so I kind of have an idea what to expect. I had one tooth that was all whacked out and growing sideways underneath my teeth so it had to be surgically removed the last thing I remember before going under was everything sounded really far away and echoey like someone was trying to talk to me through a tunnel. I don't really like hospitals, the reason for that is another story so as soon as I woke up I was out of there as fast as they would let me. I was on heavy pain meds so I never really had much pain but I could only eat soft foods for a while, and my face got really swollen. I missed one day of school then I had a three day weekend and I was back there again. It wasn't that bad but I'd prefer not to have to go get my wisdom teeth removed.

Yep. Had all my wisdom teeth, along with two molars, removed all at once about a year ago. The following three weeks were not fun.

It's funny, though - the procedure itself didn't hurt. They strapped me to a chair and stuck a needle in my arm. I was just sitting there for a few seconds, wondering why it wasn't working, when reality just dropped out from beneath me. Next thing I knew, I was awake, my mouth was sore, and the dentist was telling me it was done. The pain didn't really start until about an hour after I got home.

I have to say, getting a chance to observe the effects of anesthesia firsthand was almost worth the pain. For those who've never been put under, realize that it involves being poisoned to within an inch of your life - any more, and you will likely die very quickly. I remember commenting to the dentist the moment it started taking effect, because everything around me just fell apart. I lost all sense of time, and everything just... broke. It was an utterly bizarre experience, and I'm sure I would have been terrified if I'd still been capable of feeling fear at that point. I've heard some people describe it as a euphoric effect, but I personally didn't experience anything like that. Just utter disconnect, then unconsciousness.

My wisdom teeth have not been taken out. I'm honestly do want to take them out though despite the horrible things that happen during and after.
