I am interested in helping with this topic. I am constantly sketching my own strange creatures and might as well apply my thoughts towards something. I like trying to figure out how species act in different environments and how they adapt to survive. So I'll try my best to do whatever I can to provide ideas.

Well most of my ideas come to me while sketching, at first I start off with creatures based off real animals which then branch of further. Since this is a fantasy world I was thinking of creatures being able to use some types of magic, when the magic of the world gets more developed I'll be able to work more with magic based creatures. Since these are just basic ideas I can continue to reform them as I go on. Like below are some sketch ideas I started to work on.
Don't ask me to think of names for things right away because I'm not that good at it.
Top Left: Fire based creature who spits flames at its enemies in times of danger. Usually living in areas of high temperatures. The holes on its bodies release smoke so its insides won't burn up. They usually eat things smaller than them and won't attack unless provoked.
Top Right: A nocturnal creature that takes the appearance of an insect but is not one. I would say it would range be about the size of a human's head. Depending on how magic will work on this world, I was hoping it could be wind based and it'll used that ability to attack in defense.
Bottom Left: A big lizard with moss growing its back. It's a lazy creature that waits for other creatures to approach it rather than moving. When approach by its prey it quickly moves to gobble it up. The moss acts both as camouflage and as a lure for prey who snack on moss.
Bottom Middle: A territorial creature who does not like it's burrows stepped on. It's body is rough from digging underground and it's claws are not something to be trifled with.
Bottom Right: A creature with a cute appearance but something you don't want to meet at night. It travels in groups in places like jungles and is a carnivore. It's wide eyes allow it to see better in the dark and they jump prey and bite into them with their sharp teeth.

I'm not sure what kind of creatures would fit into the world the best but these are just ideas I'm throwing out. Once I also hear more about the geography I would be able to sketch ideas for those unique places. I won't be able to dedicate all my time to ideas since my Spring Break is over tomorrow and I'll have to get cracking on work once more. But when I do have time I'll use my sketchbook and scan in images. I'll be able to develop stronger ideas over time.

Those are nice! I think they'd fit nicely, but I see what you mean. Don't worry about time, we don't really want to rush this. My spring break ends tomorrow too so I get where you're coming from.

I'm glad that you think my ideas can work, I have a lot of fun sketching these types of things. I sketched a few more during my time in between classes. Sorry they aren't photoshop sketches, my laptop doesn't have a tablet with it.
I started thinking more along the line of what kind of domesticated animals there could possibly be. Different races could raise different types of species based on their uses. I don't have too much to say about them this time but I wanted to get the concept out there.
Top right: Some type of bovine idea
Middle: Thinking of sheep but it looks a bit like a llama
    Mid right: An aquatic creature
    Bottom left: feline creature
Most Bottom: bird lizards, I was thinking of chicken like creatures
Bottom right: fire based creature, it kind of became a mix of a salamander and ferret on fire...
Bottom most right: Just a fish I felt like drawing, ignore it.

I think those are really nice. Have you got names for them yet?

    Calaendara
Descending from Caelas, the deity of the space, the Calaendara are a humanoid race that look as though they were chiseled from the stars themselves. Their bodies are made from the fabric of the universe. Nebulae twinkle, dance, and flicker about on the canvas of their silk-like flesh, never staying in the same place for more than a minute, and two miniature supernovas burn in place of their eyes.

In every species, there is an instinctual fear of these extraterrestrial beings. They are regarded as the deadliest species in Eda, known to prey even on dragons. They have an eerily efficient method of killing. The hypnotic motions of the nebulae on their bodies lull their target into a trance. After being enthralled by the star-like patterns, the only chance of escape is being rescued. Once their victim has been subdued, the Calaendara dominate the mind of their prey, devouring and absorbing any knowledge they can find. If not freed from the Calaendara's grasp, the mind will be completely obliterated. Calaendara attack survivors are known to lose their grip on reality, and the sensation of having a space descendant inside of one's head has most commonly been described as being dragged behind a meteor.

The Calaendara roam Eda's land freely, and while far and in between, can be found anywhere. If one is encountered, fleeing is the only solution.

Finally got this out of my head and written up. These will play in a key role in Eda.

I haven't thought too much about names right away since I really am terrible at them. That sounds like a pretty cool yet scary creature, and that is a very creepy way of killing somebody. I can only image the way it just stands there as the body itself moves. Sorry I don't have any new species right now, I did start sketching up further concepts for the few I did draw. For now I'll just keep writing things down until some more ideas come to me.

Nilep: A small moth like creature, more likely related to sprites than actual bugs (Not sure if there are sprites but that would be the best way to describe this for now). They are nocturnal and have a type of magic based on wind. These creatures are not aggressive but prefer playing tricks on travelers who come around to the woods that they live in or even villages nearby. As long as they are not attacked they will choose not to fight. All Nilep have an eye like pattern on the back of their wings, and they can vary in shape, size and color. The same thing goes for the wing's pattern. Some believe the eyes represent the ever watchful nature of these creatures. The males of the species are slightly larger with fluff around its neck, wrist, and ankles. The females have no fluff. There is a daytime variant called Dalep, which looks more like a butterfly. These two creatures are not the same species but they have a similar ancestor.

I've been working on some creatures as well, sorry I haven't been active here. I will unload a few I think are good soon, tho they are all sketchbook sketches, nothing computerized or... even colored actually ^^' No good at that stuff I'm afraid.
