Wonder Guard; anyone who has ever battled a Shedinja knows how ridiculously overpowered this ability is. Wonder Guard essentially makes a Pokémon immune to all physical attacks that aren't super effective. Although this ability seems nearly impossible to beat, it does has its flaws. Gastro Acid and Mold Breaker can counter it, making it utterly useless. Additionally, status moves and weather can still hit Pokémon with Wonder Guard. However, if you have a Pokémon that has neither a super effective move or a status move, it is pretty much useless against a Pokémon with Wonder Guard. Do you think Wonder Guard is over powered? Do you have trouble against it? Do you like using it against your opponents?

Personally, I don't think Wonder Guard is that overpowered. The one Pokémon that does have it legally and without the assistance of other moves is pretty weak, easily taken out by things like Shadow Sneak, weather, status, etc. I haven't seen much use of Shedinja outside of randoms, but it's always been easy to defeat.

    Metronome Shedinja battles tho. Haha.

I think Wonder Guard can be good near the end of the battle, once you've taken out Pokémon that are threats to Shedinja. Otherwise, it's really hard to pull off considering how common moves like Knock Off are.

In my opinion Wonder Guard isn't that overpowered. Yes, it can catch a poor team off guard, but the Poke that has it is just... It's a dead husk.

Shedinja has a plethora of weaknesses. A burn or toxic and its done. Hit yourself in confusion and you ded. Curse and ded. Hail and sandstorm = ded.

The only time I've ever felt Wonder Guard overpowered was back in gen 4 when there were tons of people with hax wonder guard spiritomb that could only die by status, weather and perish song.

Wonder Guard is not even close to OP, in my own opinion. Not only does Shedinja have 5 weaknesses, both poison and burn status can "one-shot" it, in addition to weather effects (namely sand and hail) also being able to KO it. On top of everything I've said, and the status moves and abilities mentioned (Gastro Acid, Mold Breaker etc) Shedinja's base stats and move pool are not the best. 90 base Atk isn't impressive at all. Only 30 SpA and 40 Spe.
I actually wouldn't be surprised if it someday got a Mega of its own, then just maybe it might be a threat.

I noticed a lot of you have mentioned Shedinja for most common metagames. However, have you all used Wonder Guard in other types of battles like Hackmons for example? With a tier like Hackmons, you can have notorious Pokémon like Air Balloon Wonder Guard Arceus Electric that would be difficult to counter without having access to Mold Breaker or Gastro Acid. There also used to be a prevalent use of Spiritomb and Sableye with Wonder Guard back in gen 5, when they had no weakness.

Wonder Guard as an ability is OP, but the only Pokémon that can have it legally isn't. Like you said, any pure Electric type with Air Balloon and Wonder Guard is very hard to stop, unless you have access to Mold Breaker/Gastro Acid. Toxic would only work in Hackmons if the opponent is dump enough to forgot that Status moves will still be able to kill it, or when combined with Shadow Tag. Skuntanks and Drapions using the same strategy are even harder to take down, due to them being immune to Toxic, and Burn is always 12,5% which means that the opponent can always use Heal Order or any other recovery move to keep their Pokémon alive.

This ability is beautiful, because as most competitive players mostly think of putting a super effective move on a Pokémon.
I hate when I have to switch out Pokémon just to take out Shedninja though.

It's not overpowered at all. I only say this because only Shedninja has it.

Not only that, but most of the time your opponent will be carrying Stealth Rock, or Spikes, or a Status move. Sheninja will drop easily as soon as it hits the rocks.

If other Pokémon had it I would change my opinion on it.

This is a very great point here.

While the only legal Pokémon with Wonder Guard is Shedinja, the ability itself is incredibly useful. Pokémon such as the aforementioned Arceus would be incredibly difficult to counter, indeed; however, the ability isn't immune to stall. Many people aren't fans of stall as it seems "non-competitive," but it works very successfully. Sandstorm, Toxic/Will-O-Wisp, Leech Seed, and Stealth Rock are moves that can pretty much end most Pokémon when used together, and Wonder Guard is no exception to this.

See, it can be overpowered in the games, only because the computer doesn't always have those moves. The hyper offense set ups rely on dealing a ton of damage in 1-2 turns, and sending them out later leaves them pray to Stealth Rocks. I created my own set that abuses Wonder Guard against new players, but doesn't rely on it at all. I run Toxic, Protect, Dig, and Phantom Force. So basically, any Pokémon slower than it without status get badly poisoned, and then dig / phantom force plus protect just stall them out. And those with Sucker Punch, who expect a hyper offense, face a Nasty surprise. And then a protect could make them think you won't attack, bam you attack. It has many checks/counters, but it makes this PU Pokémon sweep half a team occasionally all the way up in RU.

Aw Yisss, hackmons, I can finally flex my OM muscle

In all honesty. In hackmons, Pokémon are designed to counter any big threat that comes their way. Wonderguard Spiritomb is just the norm now and can easily be taken out with Status. Heck, You could use transform chansey with Toxic, Taunt, Transform an Seismic Toss as a Defense pivot that walls every wonder guard ever! Wonder guard has never been a big threat because people have noticed it at a threat. Mellowing it down straight away.

However notice the word 'Mellow'. Because this thing cannot be just eliminated from the competition. Being able to switch into everything and everything, wonder guard makes an amazing pivot and set up sweeper out of many Pokémon. Mainly air balloon Mega Manetric with Tail Glow, Gasto Acid, Taunt and Moonblast to hit all types for insane damage. Thnaks to this, Pranster Gastro Acid has become the norm too. At the end of the day there are much bigger threats such as No Guard Sheer Cold Deyoxys-Speed.

    Oh gods the flashbacks

I love seeing the wonder guard in hackmons. Because I run mold breaker on 3 Pokémon xD It works though because my strategy is set up to make the opponent unable to hurt me (normalize), be trapped (shadow tag), and I'm ghost type and set up all 5 stats on them. With an ingrain. then its all baton passed to something mold breaker where I like seeing wonder guard over something like prankster.

I don't think Wonder Guard is that overpowered since the only Pokémon that have it got weaknesses to some common types like fire and it still got 5 weaknesses so is not that hard to get rid of it despite Wonder Guard unless you don't have a flying, fire, rock, dark or ghost move. A few of the types seems fairly common in competitive play.

In-game however that's a different story but that's because the AI sometimes are really dumb and don't pick a obvious move when they should to get rid of your Wonder Guard mon.
