Far off the Shinou coast (near Canalave City), lie the Shimmering Islands--so named because many of them glitter like the jewels they are named after. But the most important of the Shimmering Islands is Moonstone Island, where Cresselia is said to sleep when she isn't receiving visitors on Full Moon Island. But all the laughter, music, color, and joy in the islands got on Darkrai's nerves--so one night, he broke into the Jeweled Temples, where the Celestial Instruments that are the source of all music on the island lie, and hid them in well guarded dungeons. Without the Instruments, Cresselia would continue to sleep, and leave the people to suffer from nightmares, sadness, despair, but most importantly, Darkrai figured, he would get some peace and quiet. Darkrai didn't count on Melody, Ash's Meloetta, to see the whole thing. Melody hurried to tell Ash about how the Shimmering Islands had lost their sparkle seemingly overnight. Ash felt sorry for the people of the islands, and after discussing the matter with Misty, Brock, and Serena, the four friends decided to travel to the Shimmering Islands, find the Celestial Instruments, and bring back the sparkle to the islands. What wonders and terrors await Ash, Misty, Brock and Serena on the islands? It'll be Ash's biggest (and most musical) adventure yet! What follows is a detailed overview of each of the Shimmering Islands that the group visits, in alphabetical order. These overviews will detail notable features on each island, and notable events in the story when Ash and the gang reach this island. Blue Lace Island Located northwest of Obsidian Island and west of Akoya Island, Blue Lace Island is part of the Agate Cluster of the Shimmering Islands, so named because the islands are named for different types of agates. Blue Lace Island is of course, named for the blue lace agate, and the picturesque view of the waves you get on its eastern shore, which evoke its namesake stone. There is plenty of blue lace agate in the soil on the island, and like the other Shimmering Islands, even the buildings glitter with its namesake stone. It is known as a hotbed of the arts and education, due to the island's namesake stone being revered for granting its owner the gift of words (and by extension, song). It is well known for the Blue Lace Theater, one of the largest theaters on the island. Many performers around the world say that many up and coming talents and living legends perform at the theater. Performing at the Blue Lace Theater is said to inspire confidence in up and coming acts, and grant them long and illustrious careers. The Trio and Serena initially come here to get their bearings around the islands, and where to create the best route for their adventure. Brock, meanwhile, is invited to perform at the Blue Lace Theater, with his storytelling show being a smash success. It turns out that one islander in the audience remembers Brock's epic run at Shinou's Fantasy Stage, and gives the group a clue--one of the Jeweled Temples is on an agate island...
