Okay so, the Xbox One was officially revealed today. (I know there was a thread about speculation for the event, but since this is about the actual console, I hope this new thread is okay. ^^)

What we know now (based on recaps on other sites, I didn't write the actual specs down, haha:
    8GB of RAM
    8-Core CPU
    500GB hard drive
Ports, etc.: Blu-ray drive, HDMI in and out, USB 3.0

Always on internet connection is NOT required. (Good call, Microsoft!)

Supposedly kinect will have improved video/voice functionality and the whole shebang is supposed to act as a all-in-one entertainment system. It's got built in voice commands to be able to essentially change inputs (for lack of a better term, as Xbox One aims to actually BE all of the inputs, it seems) between TV, game, etc. by vocally telling it to do so.

No real game info released. Forza 5 and a new Max Payne were discussed, as well as a deal with EA Sports and confirmation that we'll be getting another of I guess all the sports games (no surprise, though).

So what do you think about the Xbox One?
Personally, I'm glad they've improved the Kinect so that hopefully it'll actually work and be a lot less buggy. I'm glad rumors about the always on connection were debunked. And I'll probably get this instead of the PS4 for now.
But otherwise... it doesn't seem overly revolutionary to me? They're mostly improving on the old system with better graphics, better kinect, etc. That might not be bad though.
I'm really glad they added blu-ray, though!

But yeah, opinions? How do you feel about where Microsoft's going with the Xbox One? What games do you think we'll see at launch with this?

The conference left me with more questions than answers; in terms of games, they never really showed the actual games themselves (Quantum Break being a good example; is it a Shooter a la Max Payne?). That, and they never really showed anything that we didn't know of other than the new Forza. The reason why I'm skeptical about this is because I don't like buying a system where right after I get it, I'm only gonna play one or two games that I actually like and would actually come back to (the original Kinect being a shining example of this; Child of Eden and The Gunstringer were the only good reasons to own that device IMHO); that, and I really hope they will show more than just shooters, because I'm one of those people who prefer a wide variety of games instead of being forced to play the same game over and over again. That, and you still are most likely going to have to pay for a service that's free everywhere else. x-x

On the upside though, the controller could be really nice; I love the D-pad, and they are improving on one of the best controllers ever made, so that's a plus for me. The new Kinect could actually be really handy to navigate the menus and such, and I love most of the specs on there (500GB hard drive is a huge plus... at least for right now; that, and they finally upgraded to the superior Blu-Ray Disc format).

This "Feature" right here, though, is what's really turning me off though: http://www.gamespot.com/news/xbox-one-has-preowned-fee-report-6408671

Don't like it . . . I have always been a good "console freak" but looking at the details I think Xbox is gonna loose this next generation of consoles! there is nothing really knew here, the Kinect is better but at the end (like always) 3rd party game industries won't make any good games for it so it will probably die!
I'm a big Nintendo fan I feel it has so much to offer with the Wii U compared to PS4 and Xbox ONE!

I agree with you on the games subject, but since I bought my 360, I've been pleasantly surprised with the range of games available (Xbox acquiring some Final Fantasy games, for example... and they received better support from Bethesda on Skyrim than Playstation did), and I'd like to think we'll see some more of a range of release titles at E3, at least.
Hopefully enough to make the console worth purchasing.

I've been looking around, but I can't find anything that confirms a specific price for the fee on used games yet, at least. And it sounds like it's tied to licensing somehow anyway--I'm pretty sure Microsoft has said if you want to, say, take a game to your friend's house and play, there would be no fee for that.
I guess they haven't released all the details, but maybe it's not too bad.

I gotta admit, Nintendo did a good thing adding some more M-rated titles to its library with the release of the Wii U--that makes it more comparable to the other two systems. Although Nintendo's starting to lose its console exclusives (Rayman...), so those have to go somewhere, and I doubt Sony gets them all--so I think the Xbox might actually get a larger library too.
It's all speculation, though. And my personal opinion, haha.

Also isn't helping that the system will require to be connected to the internet once every 24 hours, and indie devs can't self-publish titles. That, and developers themselves only have access to 5 of the 7GBs on the console. That, and the fact that all games are required to be installed on the hard drive to even play it (500 GB can only go so far, and this wouldn't be a problem if the hard drive was interchangable, but unfortunatewly, they will not allow you to do that; they will only let you use external hard drives, which blows because how my consoles are set up, I have no room to put them anywhere without the external drive heating up.)

It only gets better from here, folks!

    http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/publishers-to-receive-cut-of-xbox-one-pre-owned-sales-at-retail/0116137

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]Retailers will be free to charge whatever they wish for pre-owned Xbox One games, but both Microsoft and publishers will take a percentage cut of every sale.[/background]

    [background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]...[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]A gamer walks into a retailer and hands over the game they wish to sell. This will only be possible at retailers who have agreed to Microsoft's T&Cs and more importantly integrated Microsoft's cloud-based Azure pre-owned system into its own.[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]The game is then registered as having been traded-in on Microsoft's system. The consumer who handed it over will subsequently see the game wiped from their account — hence the until now ambiguous claim from Phil Harrison that the Xbox One would have to 'check in' to Microsoft's servers every 24 hours.[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]The retailer can then sell the pre-owned game at whatever price they like, although as part of the system the publisher of the title in question will automatically receive a percentage cut of the sale. As will Microsoft. The retailer will pocket the rest.[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]Unconfirmed reports on ConsoleDeals.co.uk suggest that retail's slice will be as little as ten per cent. That's a significant cut from what it has become accustomed to from pre-owned sales and more in line with what they would receive from the sale of a new game — hence, the value of the pre-owned market to the retailer is effectively destroyed.[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]These same unconfirmed reports also suggest that the activation cost for consumers buying or borrowing pre-owned software will be £35.[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]Many readers are asking whether the £35 will be additional cost on top of the price of buying the game. No, we believe that the £35 figure — which is not our number, incidentally — would cover the entire transaction. If correct this would leave retail with a cut per sale of around £3.50.[/background]

    [background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]Here's a slight bit of hope though:[/background]

[background=rgb(243, 243, 243)]Microsoft: "While there have been many potential scenarios discussed, we have only confirmed that we designed Xbox One to enable our customers to trade in and resell games at retail. Beyond that, we have not confirmed any specific scenarios. Another piece of clarification around playing games at a friend's house — should you choose to play your game at your friend's house, there is no fee to play that game while you are signed in to your profile."[/background]

Haha...I'm sorry, I shouldn't have laughed, but I'm just so relieved I never wanted an XBOX, least of all an XBOX One, this is just ridiculous!

The XBOX One will obviously be annihilating its competitors, the PS4 and Wii U, but I definitely agree with what you guys are saying (at one point, I was really excited when I heard about a next-gen xbox).

I have a question about the XBOX One: will this system be compatible with xbox 360 games so that they can be read and played on this system?

I really didn't own a console before... PS2, Wii, X Box, PS3, WiiU, X Box 360... the real console I legally owned is the historical PS1. =P Though, I play some of mentioned consoles via emulator... So about this new console hype, looks promising, impressive... a worthy contender of it's competitors. Though the real competition will be the games available on it. Exclusives and that. But I'm cheap, yeah, so buying it is out of the question and plus, I "illegally" obtain all the software/games I use/play...

No backwards compatibility, alas. (as of right now)
So everyone has to keep their old 360s around for those games... but I think the PS3 was originally not backwards compatible either, and then they changed, right?

Heh, for the most part, I'm finding it hard to continue defending the one against a lot of these horrible things they're proposing.
I hope they end up changing some of their fee-related decisions, based on all the outcry they're getting.

Edit: Oh but I still think there's a good chance a lot of these things are still just rumors too.
I hope E3 clears up a lot of that floating around.

Well PS4 can go ahead and kiss its sales good buy,Better system,Better Specs,Better Everything, Great Call on Microsofts Part. Wii U Might not suffer though,It has been out for a decent enough ammount of time for alot of people to have bought the systems. The newness of the Wii U is wearing off and i think only the PS4 will have a hard time trying to compete
