So we got a topic about everyone's first programming language. What of computer languages themselves? Whether you wanna hash out a Java vs C# (which is going OS now, woohooo!) debate, mention the lil' underdogs like Python and Ruby or give a shoutout to new languages on the seen such as Mac's Objective-C replacement 'Swift', here's your chance to talk code!

Something to begin with; Should programmers take a look at legacy languages? I mean, yeah, stuff like banks and such probably run on Fortran and VB, but in a Java and HTML5 dominating world, is it really worth it?

I think everyone here can generally agree that a programming language's use depends greatly on the task at hand. From a game developer point of view, building a game entirely with Java is far less than optimal (though proven to be successful if done correctly--Minecraft). From an OS perspective, PHP is nearly useless.

My personal opinion is too mixed to say which language I like most, though. I like PHP, Python, Java, and C++ a ton, but I don't know enough about all of them yet to make a concrete opinion on it!
