What are some of your favourite and least favourite tired, cliche sayings? Which ones do you use, and hate having used against you? ...who on earth are "they" anyway?
I can't really think of phrases that I use or like, but one comes to mind that I absolutely hate. It's that quote from Star Wars, "do or do not, there is no try." I've heard that quote so many times, and I hate it. Despite what people think Yoda says, people can try. They can fail, but they still try. As I've thought to myself many times, just because my attempts aren't good enough to meet other people's expectations doesn't mean that I'm not trying. I know that Yoda wasn't specifically talking about everything in the world, but that's how people use the quote.
I hate it in tv shows when this happens: Some event happened and someone makes a joke about it. After the other character gives them a look, usually followed by a laugh track, they say “Too soon?” I see it way too much and I despise it.
NOOO! I WAS GOING TO USE THAT! But I guess here's mine. "You know what they say. The path of the hero is a lonely one. Wait, they don't say that? But they say lots of things!" - Marie Cuttlefish
I have another one: when it’s your birthday and everyone asks you “how does it feel to be *insert age*?” or “do you feel older?”
“Treat others as you want to be treated,” is one I’ve always liked. It’s like a motto for me. Least favorite is “hammer the nail that sticks out.”
