You must delete a gen, but the butterfly effect occurs. Meaning, whichever gen you delete, the effects taken from that game on to the next won't exist. For example, if you delete Gen 1, the series won't exist. If you delete Gen 4, there will be no physical/special split. Which gen do you chose and why?

Oh, a toughie. I would probably chose gen 5. Mostly because anything I do would take out mega evos and the 4th gen had Giratina in it so I don't want to remove him. 5th gen had a couple cool abilities, but I could live without them.

    Hm...

Gen 1: The start of the series
Gen 2: Dark & Steel types
    Gen 3: Abilities
Gen 4: Physical / Special split
Gen 5: Some really cool Pokémon
Gen 6: Fairy type, Mega evolution

So yeah, logically, gen 5 would have the least impact if it wouldn't exist anymore... But Zoroark :(

WHY DO YOU ASK ME SUCH A QUESTION?!?!

I would remove gen 5. Gen 1 and 2 must stay, and while I didn't play 3rd gen, it introduced a lot of good features and a few Pokémon that I really do like. Gen 4 gave us the split which saved loads of Pokémon from being abysmal, gave us remakes of Gold and Silver which is great, and gave us a LOT of Pokémon, that I like, that expanded upon previous evolutionary lines. Gen 6 has all this amazing stuff that I don't need to mention, but gen 5 didn't bring that much more. It didn't give us any pre/post evos, or many new gameplay changes. Hidden abilities are pretty cool and I like triple and rotation battles, but they're not essential to the game, and I'm pretty sure that triples would have been introduced in a later generation anyway.

+ i haet vanillite and trubbish omg there so uncreative and bad ideas i meen ice creem and rubish nintendo haz run out of ideas

But really, I'd miss a lot of cool Pokémon. Even if a lot of people, including myself, disliked a lot of them, I grew to like them and they taught me that not all Pokémon will be reminiscent of the utopian first generation and that I won't like all of them. Ironically, they also taught me to judge a new design on its own strengths and not by comparison to earlier designs.

Plus without gen 5 I'd never have my dearest Bisharp, Darcy.

I am very tempted to say gen 4, as I ain't to found of the generation, but then again we wouldn't have physical/special so that would be a down side. D:
I wouldn't like to get rid with 5 either, as I liked rather many pokemons from there, like chandelure, but it didn't really bring to much new into the serie so in that way it could be a logical choice.

I think I have to agree with most people, I mean in gen 5 the only thing that really carried over (other than the Pokémon) is Hidden Abilities. every other addition was removed anyway when they moved to gen 6. but it's not an easy choice, I mean if there was no gen 5 there'd be no golurk, no ice cream cone, and no... well actually that's all i can think of. Oh fire bug that can fly.

So yeah, it's a mean question

You guys do realize removing Gen 5 means removing infinite TM use as well, right?

For me, it's a tough choice (that question is brutal) but I'd get rid of 6. I hate the Fairy type with a flaming passion and while Megas are cool and all, a handful of good Pokémon got Megas and some of just better off just evolving. Also, some are just too powerful (like Mega mom and Mega Luke). Not to mention it introduced the least amount of Pokémon (but that also means getting rid of my precious Heliolisk, Noivern and Hawlucha) so it's not a drastic change of Pokes. Furthermore, moves like Dragon Pulse and Fire Blast will get their power boost again.

Some downsides I see with getting rid of Gen 6 are: Knock Off's power boost, as said before it will get rid of the cool Pokémon, the Destiny Knot's extra effect, horde battles and Friend Safari to name a few.

I think I'd go with Gen V. It spawned a lot of my favorite Pokémon, but it would probably have the least impact if deleted. The only thing I can think of that would bother me a ton would be the ability to re-use TMs being gone. I wouldn't want to get rid of the Mega evolutions as well as Fairy Type.

Yeah. I dealt with not being able to re-use TMs for years before Gen V, I think I could continue to deal with it if it had never been introduced.

Important stuffs I can think of...

    Gen 2:
    Dark + Steel types
    Pokémon genders
    Cool new pokeballs
    Shinies
    Baby Pokémon
    Hold Items
    Pokerus
    Bag organization
    Berries
    Weather conditions

    Gen 3:
    ABILITIES & NATURES
    IV tweaking and competitive stuffs
    Better animations/framerates

Idk I never played gen 3 haha...

    Gen 4:
    WIFI TRADING & BATTLING
    Physical/Special moves split
Pokémon eggs hatch at lvl 1 instead of lvl 5

    Gen 5:
POISON DOESN'T INFLICT DMG OUTSIDE BATTLE
    INFINITE TMs
    Multi key items registration
No more encounter rate differences depending on time of day (which I'm not too fond of personally. I liked the differences)
    PokeMarts combined with PokeCenters
A whole bunch of competitive related stuff that Idek...
REPEL PROMPT (when you're out of repels it asks if you want to use another one)
HM moves can be used without badge.

    Gen 6:
    Fairy type + Mega evolutions
    8 DIRECTIONS
    CUSTOMIZATION
    3D GRAPHICS (no more sprites!!)
Super Training = easier EV training
    No mail or seasons
Pokémon can evolve even if fainted

If you think about it I'm sure things not introduced in one gen would just get introduced in the next gen anyways. But I'd probably get rid of gen 4 since it has the least impact and really the wifi trading is thanks to the enhanced device (DS) and not so much the game. Even without gen 4 the next gen would probably have wifi trading. I don't really care about the other stuff honestly. I never bother with the physical/special moves split anyways since I'm not competitive....

We're all forgetting one important thing: Each generation was built on the previous ones.
You have to see it as a tower; Gen I at the bottom, gen VI currently on top.
Therefore, if gen I would stop existing, the whole tower would collapse, and therefore, no Pokémon.
So far, everything seems obvious, but think about this:

Many people (including myself) said that gen V would be the best to deleted. Therefore, there would be no re-usable TM's, no hidden abilities, and most importantly, none of the gen V Pokémon would exist.
If I remember correctly, gen V brought some really viable Dragons for in competitive play. Without gen V, these Pokémon wouldn't exist, and Dragons wouldn't have been that much of a thing.
And wasn't that kind of the reason why Fairy type was introduced? To nerf Dragons? So, with deleting gen V, you'd also delete the existence of Fairy type.

And that's just an example, but this happens everywhere. Also, I think I wrote way too much here, sorry about that :P

Generation V honestly was a bit unnecessary and introduced relatively little to the series. So logically, Gen V.

To be honest, a lot of Dragons got their full potential in Gen 4, some got it in 5, but I don't think deleting Gen 5 would remove the Fairy type. It's not just for dragons, imo. Poison and Steel really needed to be stronger against more things. Really, back in the day you had almost NO reason to have a steel or poison typed Pokémon on your team, now if you want the upper hand, you're going to need one or the other.

In my eyes, I view Steel and Poison types as defensive types more so offensively. The Steel types were there if you needed some sort of wall (they resist almost any type, Dragon included) and the Poison type is able to resist the common Fighting type. They aren't there to being offensive much. When I was doing competitive battling (OU that is), I always packed a Steel type for my team (mostly Skarmory and Heatran) since I know they are handy for both entry hazards, great defenses and useful resistances. With Gen 6, Steel-types no longer resist Dark or Ghost-types.

I personally didn't find Dragons over powered but now with the Fairy type, it slightly nerfed the Dragon, Dark and Fighting types (with Scrafty being my favourite 'mon and Hydreigon being one of my favourites, I despised this new type). Speaking of which, Gen 5 brought more Fighting types over Dragons.

    So yeah.

They were never that usual to me, and I was really serious about battling back in Gen 5. I barely saw Steel or Poison types used on teams, even when you look at threads where people list their teams, you don't see it much. But now they actually have more of a use in game, as well as in competitive. Let's face it - in game you don't need a wall, so what's the point of having one when you could for a Pokémon which you really like instead?

This question is so deliciously evil. I'd have to choose to get rid of gen six, just because the resulting "collapse" would have less of an effect. Mega evolutions are cool and all, but I hate fairies with a passion so it wouldn't be too bad.

It's really difficult, I think it would be 4th gen as I don't really like special/physical split and the whole generation was the most boring and the Pokémon there weren's too good in my opinion. The only thing I would regret would be lack of one of my all time favourites - Luxray. :<

Generation 6 because it's for 3DS only, and all the next Pokémon games will be for 3DS, and I don't have a 3DS anyway :)

I'd have to say Gen V would be my delete gen. The only thing that I'd really miss from Gen V is the reusable TMs, which I had gotten so used to I almost did a TM spam in my recent Pokémon Emerald playthrough. To be honest, there are a lot of things that I didn't like about Gen V, including the Higher Lvl Pokémon not receiving as much exp, the removal of any sort of rebattles, and the fact that it was so difficult but so easy at the same time.
