My favorite types depending on how many Poke' I like in the type: design wise. Same for least favorite. Strengths, weaknesses, and stats are not included. However, I do like at least two or more out of every type. Favorite Typings: Fire Electric Dark Dragon Flying Normal Everything else fall under with number of Pokémon decreasing. Least Favorite Typings: Bug Fairy Ghost Fighting Rock Ground Everything else falls under with the number of Pokémon increasing. Any type not mentioned, I'm neutral. What are your favorite/ least favorite types? Dual types count, primary or secondary.
Hmmmm.....Here's a list, from Favorite to Least Favorite Fire Ice Electric Dark Dragon Ground Water Flying Ghost Fairy Grass Steel Poison Psychic Rock Bug Fighting Normal
Hrmmm I think I will just name my top three favorites and three least favorites Top 3 Favorites 1) Fire (good looking Pokémon usually and weaknesses are relatively few) 2) Electric (just see Lanturn but usually known to be glass cannons but my overall strategy is to take you down with firepower first) 3) Water (just see Lanturn but is just good all around) Least Favorites 1) Fairy (See Jigglypuff with Sing for more information) 2) Bug (Usually weak with a bunch of weaknesses) 3) Grass (Bunch of weaknesses)
Ooh this be looking to be fun an activity~! Spoiler Bloody Awesome! Tier: Dark, Flying, Grass Proper Ace! Tier: Dragon, Fighting, Ghost, Psychic Ace! Tier: Bug, Poison, Water Neat! Tier: Ground, Electric, Steel Ehh... Tier: Ice, Normal, Rock PLSDELET Tier: Fairy
The types that stand out to me as being my favorites are dark, poison, and ghost. Many of my favorite Pokémon are of those typings. My least favorite...uh...probably, rock (it feels too similar to ground, except the Pokémon aren't as cool), bug (the designs are cool, but there's a disproportionate number of super weak bug types), and fairy (a lot of the designs just feel off to me).
Hey, Hey! What you got against Normals? I kidd. I just see them as optional team fill ins. No type advantages, only weak to Fighting, and no effect on Ghosts. They at least, most of the time have good Sp.Defense, Attack, and some time Speed. They are just some form of a animal.
Thats my problem with them. My type preferences are mostly down to design and function, and Normals feel like the jack of all trades, master of none. That and I find there designs to just...exist. Nothing more nothing less.
Most of the Fairy types do feel off except for a select few [to me]. Examples would be Sylveon, Primarina, Xerneas, and Zacian.
Hmm, let's see here... Favorite Types: Dragon (I mean... it's fairly obvious why they're my favorite. Some stand-outs include Dragonite, Garchomp, and Reshiram) Dark (For sentimental reasons, plus they're good to have on most teams. i.e. Absol, Sableye, and Darkrai) Ice (Nobody seems to like these due to their many weaknesses, but they've grown on me over time. i.e. Glaceon, Froslass, Alolan Ninetales) Least Favorite Types: Poison (Most of them just look kinda... icky. Not a huge fan of them in general and some have a nasty habit of self-destructing [looking at you, Weezing]. There are some notable exceptions though, like the Nido lines, Seviper, and Salazzle.) Ground (I simply dislike fighting them, since they like to spam earthquake a lot. Using them isn't much fun either due to their grass, ice and water weaknesses. However, I do like using some of them, such as Marowak, Excadrill, and Mudsdale.) Fighting (They scare the heck out of me whenever one enters the field. They certainly... pack a punch. Jokes aside, there are several of them I don't like design-wise, though some exceptions being Mienshao, Pangoro, and Sirfetch'd.)
I like Ice types, they are cool. Not on either of my list but, some are nice to have around. A type with a lot of weaknesses do not bother me unless I can cover its back, you know? Like the Grass Type. Poison I did not add, its like at a tie with Rock types for me. For years I did not like Fighting until Blaziken came along. Then yes other 'ANIMAL' like fighting types you mentioned followed. Still not a favorite type but, I've grown to like it a little.
Gonna do these from the ones I like least to most, and I'll also elaborate just a little bit on each. Spoiler: 1600+ Word Explanation 18 - ROCK I don't even really dislike Rock, but there's just nothing interesting about it. There are hardly ever any Rock-types that I really enjoy using aside from Terrakion and Archeops or any that I like designwise besides Gigalith or Tyranitar. Even so, none of those four are favorites of mine. With most other types, there's at least one Pokémon that stands out to me as a big favorite, but I just don't have anything like that for Rock. 17 - BUG It really sucks because what would make Bug into a great typing for me would have been an easy fix. The type is just so terribly balanced that it's up for debate with Normal for being the absolute worst typing in the game. I get that this was probably intentional because of how bugs were mostly supposed to be early-game throwaway Pokémon in the earlier gens, but we're past that now and Bug should be buffed to compensate. And by that, I don't mean give them really good moves like Sticky Web or Quiver Dance, I mean make it something where you'd actually want to use Bug-type attacks or Bug-type walls (not named Mega Scizor). At least there are a lot of really cool Bug-types. 16 - NORMAL I don't really have anything overly negative to say about Normal. It serves its job as an early-game beginning type and a mostly neutral type overall, so it has that going for it, but those two roles aren't the most interesting things out there, so this isn't my favorite type. I do love Staraptor and Cinccino though. 15 - FLYING If I'm being honest, Flying is mostly a pretty forgettable type for me? There's nothing particularly interesting about it conceptually, and I rarely find myself using it competitively because of how underwhelming all of its moves are...except Defog, which is not offensive so it doesn't count. And I guess there's Brave Bird too but a lot of good Flying-types don't even learn it. Even for the ones I enjoy like Crobat and Archeops, their other type will often stand out to me more than Flying, unless you're Staraptor in which case they just kind of blend together. 14 - FIGHTING Fighting would be in the same realm as Rock if not for the fact that there are a lot of really fun Fighting-types and if not for Clobbopus being among my favorite Pokémon. It's also much more interesting than any of the types before it, and Close Combat is a really important move I guess. 13 - GROUND Fighting and Ground are mostly interchangeable for me. A lot of the things I enjoy about one, I enjoy about the other. Replace Clobbopus with Excadrill, though, and add the deciding factor of Ground-types being more fun to use competitively, between things like Landorus-T, Gliscor, and Zygarde. Those three put Ground above Fighting, honestly. 12 - FIRE Here's a trio of typings that I'm not the biggest fan of all for similar reasons. Fire is a pretty rare type where I have things like Typhlosion that are among my favorites, and Heatran and Rotom-H are fun to use competitively, but I'm not really too attached to many other Fire-types aside from those three because of how scarcely I see them. I don't know why Fire is a rare type but it is, and it doesn't help when I play through Pokémon Alpha Sapphire and my three options for a Fire-type are Camerupt, Torkoal, and Magcargo, none of which I really like. 11 - DRAGON I kind of liked how elusive Dragon was at the start, even if it was a bit excessive in that case, and while that rarity is still there, they missed out on a golden opportunity to keep it really rare and just made it another annoying lategame type. I really do like Kyurem, Naganadel and Duraludon, and Dragons are always a blast to use competitively, but I never really cared to use one ingame, so I doubt I'll ever become overly attached to one. 10 - ICE Another really rare type where there are a few standouts, but mostly mediocre Pokémon otherwise. Weavile is my second favorite Pokémon of all, and I like Kyurem in all aspects, but there are no other standouts and it's also not a type you come across very often ingame. Ice also has a design philosophy problem that I won't really go into here, but I do think it's slowly being fixed and I think it's more interesting than the two types I put just before it conceptually. 9 - WATER This where things get more interesting. Although I don't inherently dislike any type, I've had issues with every type before this one, and this is kind of where that stops. Water is kind of the grab bag of Pokémon in the way that there's everything here, and that's going to include stuff you love, hate, and everything in between. Tentacruel is my all-time favorite and is a Water-type, and I love Greninja and Araquanid, but I despise things like Bruxish for example. I have no single opinion on Water as a type because there's way too much here, although it is fun to use defensive Waters competitively. 8 - DARK Dark is an inherently cool type, and I really enjoy a lot of Dark-types out there; Sableye and Weavile are two favorites of mine, and there are a ton of other great Pokémon like Cacturne, Bisharp, and Hydreigon as well. It's also decent fun to use competitively even if not the best, and I like how effective it was in helping curb the broken Psychics of Gen 1. Overall, really solid type. 7 - FAIRY While not all Fairies are standouts, I really do like that this singlehandedly stopped the dominance of Dragons. Steel and Dark individually can't really say they singlehandedly made Psychics bad or Fighting mons good, but Fairy can say that they balanced Dragons by themselves, and that's pretty cool to me. It does hurt that it's a pretty rare type, but it's at least understandable why, and there are still some great fairies like Hatterene and Whimsicott out there. My opinion of this type is likely to go up as Game Freak makes more of them, and with the rate they're going, I'm sure they'll get there quickly. 6 - ELECTRIC Everything positive I could say about a type aside from being added for balancing is something I could say about Electric. It's cool conceptually, has some of my favorites (Minun and Pichu), and can sometimes be fun to use competitively as well. I really don't have much to say about this one. 5 - STEEL Here's where stuff gets really good for me. I really love Jirachi, and I think Duraludon and Kartana are great as well, but the place Steel shines in is as a competitive type. Steel is by far the most broken type in the recent generations and it's not even close, and it's a joy to use for that reason. I don't think any type should resist half of the types in the game, but here we are. Some offensive types would be significantly worse if they didn't have as good of matchups against Steel as they did. I always play the game with at least one Steel on my team, even if that in itself is kind of a flaw; the type is really poorly-designed, which keeps it from being higher. 4 - GRASS Grass is kind of weird for me because it's not my favorite type conceptually, and it's not my favorite competitively. Even if I still do like it on both of those aspects, there are just so many fantastic Grass-types out there and I don't think there are even very many bad ones. Just to give you the rundown: Tangrowth, Whimsicott, and Sceptile are all within my top 10 favorites, Kartana and Rillaboom are top 20, and there are several others that are notable. This admittedly is a list that may need updating, but I love all of those Pokémon still, and this makes up for a quarter of my top 20! That's something that I can't just leave unnoticed. 3 - POISON Something I've yet to mention is status, and I think Poison does that really well. Regular Poison is a really good early-game status that still stays threatening over the course of a gamethrough, and then there's Toxic which is super fun competitively. Otherwise it's a fun type conceptually that has a lot of really cool Pokémon, including both Poipole (my mascot for a while) and Tentacruel (who has been my favorite for years now). Really cool type all around, but I can't deny that there are quite a few REALLY bad Poison-types... 2 - PSYCHIC Psychic is the type that people associate me with more than any other, and that's for a number of reasons. I main Mewtwo in Smash, I'm named after Duosion (both still favorites of mine), I like to make jokes with friends about how I have some impossibly large brain, things like that. It's not really the most interesting type conceptually and definitely not competitively, but I still feel like it's MY type, even if it's still not my favorite. 1 - GHOST Easy favorite for me. I don't think there's a single Ghost-type I outright dislike, although there are some like Polteageist and Golett that are kind of average to me. This is on top of Ghost moves being really fun and spammable and Ghost including some of my all-time favorites like Sableye and Cofagrigus. The best thing about Ghost though is that it's just super interesting conceptually. I don't think there's a type that just screams "that's awesome" to me like how Ghost does, and that alone would make it great. But the fact that it's really good in every other regard pushes it up to the top.
Like the nerd I am, I made a list ranking all 898 Pokémon. Then I created an average score for each type. Here are the results from least favorite to favorite! 18 . Rock - 6.25 17. Steel - 6.28 16. Fighting - 6.37 15. Poison - 6.43 14. Water - 6.50 13. Normal - 6.53 12. Bug - 6.55 11. Flying - 6.61 10. Dark - 6.66 9. Ground - 6.70 8. Electric - 6.73 7. Dragon - 6.75 6. Fire - 6.85 5. Psychic - 6.89 4. Ice - 6.95 3. Grass - 7.00 2. Fairy - 7.60 1. Ghost - 7.61
That's some serious dedication My favourite types are Grass, Fairy, Ice and to some extent Psychic. In contrast, I don't really like Rock, Ground, Normal and Fighting types.
I don't really have any least favorite types so I'll just share some of my favorites: 1. Dragon Dragon-type Pokémon are just amazing! I mean, even excluding the fact that my two favorite Pokémon (Latios and Latias if you haven't guessed) are dragon types, I love the designs of the Dratini line, Pokémon like Salamance and Flygon, and even the other legendaries like Reshiram and Zekrom. 2. Psychic Psychic types are just plain cool. (I mean, I might be biased since Latios and Latias are also psychic types) Along with some of my other favorites like Mew (I play the Mew VMAX deck in Pokémon TCG) and Azelf (hence why I'm here), there are Pokémon like Mewtwo, Mesprit, Uxie, and Lugia. 3. Electric Pikachu.
