    Lately it seems that Macintosh and Linux operating systems are growing in popularity among their respective crowds, but chances are you probably have some kind of a Windows OS on your computer. If you do, maybe you're on the cutting-edge with Windows 10, or perhaps you want to hang back with 7 and 8/8.1 for their own reasons. Or maybe you're old-school and stick with XP, or do you think Vista doesn't deserve its bad reputation? What version do you use most, and what's keeping you from moving to the next newer version or pushing you away from the older versions?

    ~~~
    I've ridden the timeline of Windows systems from XP (though my own first computer was Vista) all the way up through 10 right now, though I skipped over 8 until I installed it on another harddrive for dual-booting. I like what I see there, for the most part. Windows 8 with a Classic Shell is like all the goodness of Windows 7 (which I loved for its interface and compatibility) with none of the maybe-shadiness hiding in 10, but I'm not sure if I want to commit yet. I've got a spare HDD, so I think I might use that to safely fully downgrade to 8 once I make up my mind.
    I grew up mainly on Windows XP and Vista (I'm still using a Vista, and it's a good system), but I have used 7 and 8 as well. In my experience, I would say that Windows Vista has to be my favorite in terms of user friendliness, but I like 7 better overall because of the extra functions and compatibility it brings. The thing that is holding me back from upgrading from Vista on my current computer is the fact that my computer has a crap processor, and has trouble loading basic things a lot, as it will shut down randomly sometimes if I try to open applications such as FL Studio and GIMP (I use these quite often). Windows 10 looks intriguing, and I've heard that it's a drastic improvement over Windows 8, which I have tried and hated with a burning passion. I'm expecting to have a new PC in the next month, so I'll have a Windows 10, so let's see what that brings :).
    Currently using Windows 8 and the only real reason I stick with it is because I can't update to Windows 10. Not that I mind much, because my computer works just fine like this ^^ It was hard to get used to, though, and I think I still prefer Windows 7, but it's kind of whatever I guess ^^'
    I have used Windows ever since Windows 3.1, which was many years ago. I currently use Windows XP, and even to this day I lament that it's still not quite as good as Windows 98 was - though to XP's credit, it is still rather robust. 98 had a few issues of its own, but most of them related to advancing technology. XP doesn't really have those issues.
    I've used Windows 7 before, as that is the OS that my university uses. It's something I'll tolerate but not something I overtly like. 7 isn't outright bad - I'm just not fond of its GUI, that's all, but at least it fixed the many issues that Vista had.
    8 is disgusting if you don't use it on a tablet (as it is designed to be a tablet OS), and 10 has decidedly mixed appraisal, though usually negative. I don't see myself going to a newer Windows OS from XP, because if it isn't broken, don't fix it. There's a possibility I may move to Windows 7 out of necessity, but that is as far as it will go.
    I have never owned a Macintosh but I don't like its GUI whatsoever. I never have (my first encounter with Mac was in the late 90s, and even with subsequent recent encounters, not much has changed) and most likely never will. I have never encountered Linux, however. Whether or not I will choose to learn it is debatable, as there is little incentive for me at present to indulge in its new learning curve.
    I use Vista, but that's because I'm not allowed to upgrade this computer. It's not like I know how to do that though, I guess I'd have to go to Windows's official website to see for myself. I guess it works just fine.
