How many new Pokémon do you think will be introduced?

Considering Gen 6 introduced the fewest number of new Pokémon of all generations, do you think we'll be seeing more new Pokémon than other generations or will GF bestow upon us only a few more new Pocket Monsters this time around?
Hoping we'll at least get more Legendary Pokémon than in Gen 6, which only had the XYZ trio, Diancie, Hoopa and Volcanion. If we assume the 4 island guardian Pokémon are all Legendaries, there should already be more Legendary Pokémon known: Solgaleo, Lunala, 4 guardians and Magearna, which is certainly promising. Another thing we is that Pokémon from previous generations will be in the game, unlike BW so it's probably not guaranteed there'll be over 100 new Pokémon introduced as the game can be filled up with old Pokémon, as well as Mega Evolutions. I'm expecting anywhere between 80 to 120 new Pokémon but of course I hope this'll be the generation with the biggest amount of new Pokémon :3

I personally think that the Alola region is kind of small compared to some other regions. And it's logical to think that smaller regions contain less Pokémon right? I'm gonna say that's right. I think that the Alola region will contain a lot more Pokémon then Gen 6 and with new Mega Evolutions (at least I hope so) there should be maybe around 100 Pokémon give or take a few dozen.

I hope around 150 with out megas, but considering what happened in X and Y I doubt that is likely. I like Ultra's therory, but I doubt it would be a smaller reigon unless you can back track to another reigon. I personally think that would be kinda stupid to make one reigon so much smaller that there are a difference in the number of new Pokémon.

I'd say yes and no to this. At the first glance, yes, it's likely that the smaller regions would have less Pokémon; however, take a look at all that beautiful ocean space. Theoretically, we could just see a lot of new water Pokémon. That's not likely, though.

There's bound to be a large diversity of Pokémon given the diversity of the areas we've seen so far. I'm personally hoping for at least 100 new Pokémon, and even if that's unrealistic, I'll still be disappointed if it ends up being less. The fewer Pokémon they add, the quicker the game will get boring (for me, anyway).

GF representatives have mentioned that the region is 'full of life' many many times but that could just mean there's a lot of Pokémon we've already seen. I'm not sure how much the region has to do with it anyway, Kalos was quite sizable but introduced only a measly amount of Pokémon. Then again, that region was the first to feature Mega Evolution...

If you take a look at the National Dex in XY (I only have X for Gen 6) You can see that the odd-numbered generations have consistently added more Pokémon than the even-numbered ones. Here are some numbers for you (Courtesy of Bulbapedia):

    Gen 1: 151
    Gen 2: 100
    Gen 3: 135
    Gen 4: 107
    Gen 5: 156
    Gen 6: 72

So if the pattern continues, Gen 7 is more likely than not to have lots of Pokeymans to enjoy. However, Game Freak did show that they can break the mold by not making their main games trilogies two Generations in a row (By releasing Black 2/White 2, and nothing at all for XY) so there's no way to be sure.

I'm not going to have too much of an expectation for the number of new 'mons they're adding. I was really hyped for XY but then they revealed almost all the new Pokémon before it's even released (which isn't that many to begin with) and I got disappointed.

My guess is probably around 90 to 100 new Pokémon (not counting alternate forms/Megas). Maybe 120 if we're lucky, but it's unlikely since from the latest gameplay trailer we can see that one of the early routes had Ledian, which means they have some old Pokémon in the mix. I would keep my expectations low so I wouldn't be disappointed if Alola only had like 60 native 'mons.

While based on appearance, the Alola region looks like it would most likely have tons of water-types, my prediction is that most of them are probably old Pokémon like Alomomola, Wingull, etc with a few new water Pokémon. If I remember correctly, almost all the islands have a volcano, so there might be a lot of new fire types or even steel types, too. Or perhaps some Dragon types that are native to each islands, who knows.

I'm hoping that there are at least more than gen 6, and certainly beyond 'more than 10'

Excluding mega evolutions, I am guessing something equal to how many kalos introduced (which is around 70 or 71). The region is indeed small, but looks can be quite deceiving from time to time. We already know 11 Pokémon in the Alola region but there are still the evolutions and others we do not know about.

For mega evolution, I'm probably guessing around 6. Since new Pokémon are being introduced, I doubt we'll have a lot new mega evolutions.

Yeah, I was going to say the same. Judging the pattern so far, Alola should have around 150 new Pokémon again. Then again, they might not include that many because there are already a lot of Pokémon in existence. They can't continue to add a lot of Pokémon each year or people won't be able to keep track of all of them after a while, I figure. That doesn't mean I don't want to see a lot of new Pokémon though: I'm always curious to find out what kind of new creatures Game Freak has come up with :D

Considering that Alola is smaller than the other regions, I don't expect more than 150. At most, 100 Pokémon (including mega evolutions) will be added.

I wouldn't expect much considering how many Pokémon already exist, though I wouldn't mind it if we got more. It sucks that so many more Pokémon would be overshadowed though.

    Well, so far we've seen quite a few Pokémon, around 20, and we've still got almost 5 months to go until the release of Sun & Moon. I think it's a likely change we could see an upwards of 100 Pokémon, and I'm hoping we'll see around that. 150 or so would be super nice too though I'd doubt it, 100 new Pokémon would be surprising enough. ;v;

As of right now, there are 31 new Pokémon that have been revealed for Alola. At this time in 2013, we had about 30 Kalos Pokémon revealed as well, but X and Y were revealed a bit earlier and Sun and Moon. Judging by this, I'm guessing we will have around 100 new Pokémon, which I am okay with. Ideally, I'm hoping for at least 120, along with some new Alola forms for older Pokémon, as well.

A lot more than whatever the current total is including what was found in the demo. And that's not including Alolan forms, given that I expect at least the number of Pokémon we got in Gen 6 for new ones, then the rest could be Alolan forms.

That's what I'd like, as for what I think...it's probably best I keep my expectations low and say the same amount as Gen 6 including Alolan forms. It's sad but they seem to be stalling the timer before the big 1000.

The Diamond and Pearl remakes that are likely to happen given the amount of Arceus imagery- that's when we'll get new megas and regional variants for other generations.
