Sun and Moon, as y'all know, was recently released. However, Pokebank seems to not have realized this. That's right. We can't use pokebank with Sun and Moon, not yet anyways. Speculation has Pokebank compatibility coming in early January, more than a month away. How do you feel about this? Were you disappointed at all? Just express your feelings and thoughts.
If I recall correctly it gets the official update for the new games on January 17th. I'm perfectly fine with waiting, it gives a few months of brand new Alola-caught Pokémon only, like a fresh start. I think this period is a good thing for the game, actually. I am however excited for when the bank update comes because I am totally ready for Pokédex near completion. I'm three away from having all Gen 1-6 Pokémon on OR already, so it will be a fun day getting those pages filled up (I just hope it's not going to be a one by one entry after I turn on the game after the transfer, because I don't want to sit through 700+ instances of 'REGISTERED!!' and Rotom talking to me). I've also read that the bank update will be the method for how the National Dex is even unlocked in the first place for everyone. By all appearances this delay is not merely technical with Nintendo needing the time to make it work but a deliberate decision and one I'm okay with.
I don't mind waiting at all, I'm actually glad the Pokebank update wasn't immediately released with the launch of the games. This makes it so that there isn't any heavy reliance on old Pokémon to influence your new experience with Sun and Moon. The GTS trades are also not as bad and it's nice to see a significant drop in hacked Pokémon in the games (since players can't transfer over their "legal" Pokémon with Pokebank). The only downside I personally have with Pokebank updating until January is that breeding will be much more difficult as getting a Ditto with good IVs isn't reliable in game compared to just transferring over Dittos from Friend Safari etc. that have guaranteed good IVs.
I think it is a good thing as this won't allow people to flood their games with OP Pokémon, allowing them to progress through the story naturally and fill the Pokédex like the game wants you to. It also keeps the GTS cleaner for a little longer from excess legendary Pokémon.
I wanted to start with a Bulbasaur on this game, but the PokeBank wasn't there. So, I started with Rowlet and he simply was and is still awesome. The reason of why I wanted the Bulbasaur is because the protagonist comes from Kanto and the Grass Pokémon is hard to use in some games. I still want the PokeBank but in this way the Metagame is more exciting so I don't have problem waiting. Pokémon is always cool!
Only drawback with the delay is the fact I won't be able to breed much of anything in Sun and Moon. This is especially true to the fact some breeding and ev training items require BP, and since i lack any good Pokémon it's difficult to really do much about it. What's also absent alongside Pokebank is the team QR codes that we were going to get with the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon global link. Hopefully they come out in January or sooner.
I think it is good to wait. That way, people can learn more about the Alola region and the Pokémon that live there. Once the Pokébank is available for S/M, then plays can think of a way to combine their strategies in X/Y/OR/AS and S/M to form a new team for battling.
Kinda disappointed because that will mean it would take much longer until I can complete my living dex, but it's fine anyway. I don't mind waiting a bit.
It's pretty annoying for me because I have a ton of different Ditto and other useful Pokémon that I don't have access to, not to mention all of my BP. Can't wait for them to finally allow us to use bank.
