https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kcdRBHM7kM A new sandbox Mario game coming to Nintendo Switch in Holiday season 2017. Discuss!
It looks really cool, honestly. I've never played Sunshine, I did play 64, this seems to fall into the same 3D platformer category, one of my favorite genres. I'm definitely getting a switch, unfortunately this one won't come out until the holiday season, but I'm pretty hyped for it! Tons of new mechanics that I haven't seen before.
I'm 100% with you there! I think it looks amazing and to me is the best reveal of the bunch. Not that we had a ton but still, it's a super nice looking game. Very excited.
I come from a strange perspective here. I have never played a main-series Mario game (but I love the RPG and Party series), and I have no plans to do so, because the style of the platformer there is not something I like very much. (I've always been a Sonic adherent when it comes to platformers; sue me.) A few reasons for this is that I don't like how the game handles you being hit, the levels themselves are usually boring and feel very recycled, and I feel generally because of that the games are devoid of much variety. That's why I haven't really paid any mind to main-series Mario games that weren't Galaxy. I don't think there is anything wrong or bad with their formula per se, but it's not something I'm intrigued in, because level design and appearance is usually a deciding factor for me. That said, while my stance on whether or not I'll buy a main-series Mario game is unchanged, I'm rather optimistic about this particular game. It's open-world, has a lot of exploration and possibility, and the level shown in the trailer looks like a humourous cross between Sonic 2006's hub world and the Super Mario Bros. movie (which I still need to go watch one day). I really do think that Odyssey here shows a lot of promise and potential, and hope that it's everything that it's been made out to be and more - because I've never seen a Mario game look this astounding.
Honestly I find the cityscape with the people and cars and things just way too much like Sonic for me, however it looks like just as solid a game as you could expect from Mario.
I completely agree here. When I saw the short clip of this at the beginning of the reveal I was flabbergasted. Seeing Mario jumping rope with humans (especially noting the size differences here) was what I imagine an acid-trip to be like. Same as @[member="Eclipse"] mentioned as well regarding the platformer type Mario games fall under--I buy those games every now and then for quick games, but the Mario games that captured my heart were Galaxy 1 & 2, 64 ( and 64 DS), and most recently 3D World. Odyssey looks to be very promising, I just hope the shock-factor of a NYC cityscape doesn't ruin it for me.
Odyssey looks really great! I was really surprised when it was Mario who jumped out of the manhole, but I think it's fun that Mario can explore basically NYC. Apart from NYC, the environments look like they were ripped straight out of a storybook. And I also liked how Mario was reacting to the environment as he was shivering in the cold. I literally thought this was Galaxy 3 for a minute. Did anyone else think that, too?
I never played sunshine, which I hear this game is compared to and I barely played any of Mario 64, other then that I have never played an open world mario game possibly any other open world game too So for me this could be a big game, I really want to play it, it looks amazing. The trailer looked beautiful, though I am a little iffy on what the live hat has to do with all this. In end, it is an amazing game but it should be a launch title, not a winter title.
Well, I don't have a Switch. I need one, because the Pokémon games are moving off the 3DS and I'm sad. And also to play Odyssey.
