A pretty self-explanatory thread! Many people have a preference towards certain genres of writing, and usually, that changes over time. I started out by enjoying a lot of mythology and fantasy in elementary school, then reading a lot of action-adventure school (and we won't even mention high school, where I only read required reading with my last two brain cells :') )

I really believe that reading fantasy and adventure shaped the kind of writer I am today. It certainly shows in my fanfiction. What genres have shaped/influenced you, and what genres do you mainly write now?

I really enjoy reading books with fantastical and mystery elements, Some of my favorite books or series include twists or events that had been previously built up, but still catch the reader off guard. Despite those being my reading preferences, I don't really write either fantasy or mystery stories. They may take place in a fantasy world, especially my fanfiction, but my stories typically focus on familial and platonic (and sometimes romantic) bonds and relationships between characters. There's nothing I love more in my stories than a close relationship between two characters. I love it when I get it in the stories that I read, but I typically don't get enough of it, and I think that's why I write it.

Do you also like the found family/strong platonic love tropes?

Personally, I prefer a good adventure, one with some fantasy and/or sci-fi elements, but sometimes I look for a good laugh instead. I tend to write mostly adventure stories too, and my preferences usually lead me to write either Pokémon or Digimon fanfiction.

Of course it's Pokémon that I mostly write about when I'm not working on my Kirby sprite comic these days, especially since Digimon requires a greater deal of research when I don't want to make up Digimon.

Honestly. I legitimately can't write anything other than fantasy well...okay I can write paranormal...I wrote this story once that went some very dark places so I decided to stick to fantasy from then on...though even my fantasy can go odd places.
Also yes! Digimon! I write a digimon fanfic on fanfiction and I actually think it's easier to write that over Pokémon fanfics since Digimon feels more fantasy than Pokémon...don't ask me why that's just how my brain works.

Realistic fiction has always been my comfort zone when it comes to reading and writing. Taking the world around you and applying it into a story can really make the reader feel like they can relate to what’s happening.

More recently, I’ve gotten into science fiction and non-fiction as well. Though I don’t know how good I’d be at pulling it off.
