So through out the generations, Pokémon designs have been changed depending on gender. Not a lot but surely and handful from each generation have gotten this change. They used to be smaller changes like a smaller fin or a change in color, as of the most recent games those changes are more drastic and have even effected stats. I think that the gender ratios are very weird already but these changes are someone just as weird or worse. So what is your favorite gender change in game? What is the weirdest? Do you think any Pokémon should have a change between the genders or need a bigger change? My favorite would be the entire Nidoran line, the first gender changes they they already made them very unique and with interesting designs and color choices. Female Male The weridest would be wobbuffet, the silly lipstick gag just is so out there and unique compared to other Pokémon with gender changes. Female Male I think that Machamp should have a gender change between male and female. Not that it has to be a big change or making a whole new sprite but what about for the female it gets a one piece design over a speedo on the male. I think it would make a fresh look on Machamp without making it with lipstick, a curvy figure, breasts, etc. Just a one piece wrestling like uniform, it can keep the belt and everything. Thats just me though. Female Possibility? (credit to gl of cybertron) Male So what are your opinions on the Gender Differences in Pokémon?
I think its a really neat detail to have in the games. I like how much Pokémon does pay attention to the details of their Pokémon, and what they are designed from. If they can incorporate a gender difference into the Pokémon design, then it adds just a little more character to the Pokémon. The only gender difference that annoys me is the gender ratios of certain Pokémon. It makes it a HUGE pain to breed things like eevee because you get overloaded on one gender but not another. The amount of time I put into breeding archens... ugh. Not a fan of that.
I really dislike when a Pokémon's gender affects whether or not it can evolve in the right way. For example, breeding for a Gallade or a Vespiquen. Male combees are just useless and it can be really upsetting breeding the perfect ralts just to realise its female (considering it would more than likely have a -sp.atk nature so it would be useless as a gardevoir). But cosmetic differences like pyroar and jellicent are fine and give the Pokémon something unique in my opinion.
I love that they took the time to give Pokémon different appearances with gender even if they didn't need to. One of my favorites is Jellicent because of how different it feels. I practically treat them as different Pokémon!
Meowstic-M and F I think are really cool, because they're entirely different Pokémon almost. The only thing that's the same is their base stats. Tbh I just love Meowstic so much, it's one of my favorite Gen 6 Pokémon and I used one in my first playthrough too. The first gender difference I noticed myself was with Rattata, whiskers have different lengths.
Best one is probably Meowstic. While the stats between the two are the same, their movepools and abilities widely vary, with males having a support movepool with Prankster, and the female ones having an offensive movepool with Competitive. I think the wierdest gender difference is also the hardest one to notice. Male Torchic have a single small black dot on ttheir backs, while the ladies don't. Like, I don't get why, really. Might as well not even have a gender difference, if you ask me. Only arguement I could see for it would be that it's evolutions both have gender differences, as well.
I favour the gender differences in Pokémon a lot. Hell, I even used the females more than the males and still do to this day. It should be made more apparent however. Be rid of the slight differences and make them largely noticeable, like Nidoran and Meowstic for example. These are prime examples "of how to do it right" imo.
I love the Meowstic gender difference and the fact that is more than just looks that's different for them. The male is more support minded while the female is better suited for offensive play. i wouldn't mind if we saw more of that. Gender differences is also an over all nice detail.
I like the Unfezant differences because they are directly inspired by actual nature when it comes to some bird species where the males are by comparison all decorative and pretty to impress the girls because it's up to them to do the good impression work and the females just sit back and choose (I wish less humans would act in line with this bird behavior paradigm shit but the majority do regardless of how much lipservice they might pay towards wanting everything being equal but what can ya do) The Nido-lines are awesome and classic overall although the Nidorans became just a little awkward when gender was added as a feature for most Pokémon just a generation later, where there would be only one Pokémon called Nidoran that simply evolved differently instead of two separate numbered beasts with the same name. It's almost like there's an extra unnecessary Pokémon now in a sense and with it an unnecessary extra number but oh well, trying to re-order everything to fit the later mold would be a huge pain in the ass that isn't worth the trouble.
I like most gender differences, but some (Wobbuffet) are really uncomfortable. Alakazam's is pretty neat - just a simple mustache difference.
I think it's cool to see some differences gender wise for Pokémon especially for Meowstic and Burmy. It's cool to see what they look like when they have different abilities and/or evolve differently depending on their gender. But as Satix mentioned, some can be a bit... awkward... like Wobbuffet.
I like Pikachu's gender difference. Although it's only it's tail. Females look like they have a heart shape. Female wobbafet, those lips lol
I agree here, it's ok with just aesthetics but when it actually effects the Pokémon it's :/ at least make male combee stronger.
I really love the Gender differences. I mean look at Pyroar, they took into account that female lions look very different from male ones. And of course, I just adore Female Meowstic. But I do agree that gender-based evolutions can be the bane of your game. Freaking Ralts
