There are many selections when you choose what you will be enjoying but do you go Shojo, Shonen, etc. Some people enjoy the action of Naruto or Dragon Ball Z while others prefer a calmer scene, like an Ouran High School Host Club or K-On. What is your opinion on this, which do you find yourself enjoying most often? I really don't have a favorite as I love to see swift fluid intense action and motion while loving a romance vibe or at least a cutesy kind of relationship.
I'm shoujo, romance trash. I love romance. It's so bittersweet because of all the messed up things that usually happens to get in the way of the main couple but by the end, you really become attached the couple. You see how much they went through to be together.
It's a hard choice, on one hand I enjoy the serious action packed anime, but I also like anime's with comedy. I suppose the best, imo, would be a good blend of them like Naruto or, my new fav, Assassination Classroom. Assassination Classroom really defines what I like the most in anime, action, comedy, characters I like and the ability to bring out the feels.
When I started watching anime I'm pretty sure I watched like 7 different genres before repeating one and I loved them all. I'm not very picky when it comes to anime genres it seems. I'm just looking for shows with good character and story. If I care about the character and what is going on that's all I need.
I suppose the only answer I could give is mecha, since I'm really not much of a general anime fan, I'm overall a Gundam fan (some people consider anime to be a genre in and of itself and I've never personally agreed with that, the same way that I don't think of live action is a genre, the content makes the genre not the presentation choices). Though it must be said that within the many Gundam series (I have not watched them all) there are hints of sub genres. Some are very political and full of action with heavy plot armor (if there's a Japanese term for such a thing you can let me know), most that I have watched all the way through have some kind of romance subplot to one degree or another. G-Gundam has a lot of goofy campy fun stuff and some humor, especially in the first half. Elements of other genres and themes shine through at times. But overall, mecha, and I'm fine with hints of other genres thrown in if they enrich the story.
My favorite genres are: Romantic Comedy (Shoujo), BL (Yaoi), Shounen-ai, some Shounen series. I don't read a lot of shounen manga...in fact I don't think I read any...except for Nurarihyon no Mago and maybe skimming Fairy Tail's latest chapters. I read some shoujo manga, but I mostly have been reading yaoi for almost 6 years now... I can watch some shounen series, but not all. Shoujo and BL is my best genres!
I do not have a real favorite , but I often catch myself watching Shounen. whenever I see an anime that I like, I go check it and see its again Shounen.
The thread's about types of anime, not specific titles. Anyway: For me, there are three types that tend to get my attention most: action-packed titles, fantasy or a mix of both. I love watching action scenes in anime, especially since for a country that usually works with a low budget, the Japanese are really good at action. Fantasy just opens up a world of possibilities. Mix them both together and you've got me.
