    Did anyone know that Dawn actually had a father in the games, and that he was one of Prof. Rowan's assistant? I definitely missed that back when I played through Platinum... O_O

    I probably should've been clearer, actually. The 'rival' (since I'm a guy, I always play as Lucas, so the 'rival' always ends up being Dawn) has a father, and he's the one that gives you the EXP. Share in... what town was it again? Eterna City, I believe... I don't mean the player-character (I still think it's weird that the PC is always the child of a single parent outside of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald; even Michael of Gale of Darkness has a father who is at least mentioned, albeit in past-tense and in a way implying that he's dead... but Orre is a dark place, so...).

    Oh yeah, I think I remembered that too. Though in my case I think the NPC said they were Lucas' father so it fits either way for the player.

    It would be interesting if the roles were switched around in future games and the player just has a stay at home Dad and a Mom or other partner that is never mentioned lol

    Agreed. The 'single-mom' trope, while far too true to real life for my liking, is a bit overdone by now...

    I knew about this. But the thing that bothered me is that the rival has the single father. There is no mother mentioned for the rival, iirc.

    I know. It still bothers though that it is the second instance of a single father raising two kids in the Pokémon universe, Silver with Giovanni being the first. I mean Gary doesn't even have parents in RBY, only a sister and a grandfather. Rivals are shafted with their parents.

    Tell me about it. BOTH sides, with the exception of the Gen3!Protag, get shafted parents-wise in just about every generation - and it's usually a single mother. N has it the worst, IIRC, 'cause his "dad" is that psychopath that wants to pretty much destroy the world... dunno the details as I haven't touched B/W, but that's what I've gathered thus far.

    Something else I realized - in HG/SS, the friend-rival (again, depending on the gender of your own character) also has a single-parent who is a father. Only Professor Elm still has his wife (along with their child).

    I noticed it during my second playthrough(Since Diamond was my secound ever Pokémon game so I played that, alot.)

    My First thought was: Dawn, Your dad's a Nerd.

    My second thought came about remmbering silver for the obvious reason one should know should you have played through gen 4 100%.
    Its Interesting that they just left your rival's parents just sitting there, But i suppose same applies to your mother.
