So, who knows the company Treasure? You know, the guys who made Gunstar Heroes, Ikaruga, Radiant Silvergun, etc. Well, they are well known for another game. The Japan-only run and gun Sin & Punishment from 2000. In typical Treasure fashion its filled with copious amounts of explosions, hilariously poor voice acting, a plot that doesn't matter, and great gameplay. However, Sin & Punishment has something most treasure games don't get. A sequel, released 9 years and two console generations later on the Wii, Sin & Punishment: Star Successor. Which I find to be one of the best games on the system, and possibly Treasure's best work period. There's somehow more explosions than its predecessor, crazy fast and intense gameplay, high difficulty, great boss fights and stage variety, and unlike the first game, it was actually properly released worldwide. And just like a typical Treasure game, it sold terribly. Nowadays people only know S&P for Saki being an assist in Smash Bros Brawl and 4 (Not even Ultimate kept him around). But trust me, if you haven't played either of these two, particularly Star Successor, you are missing out. And if by chance you have played these games, which one did you enjoy more and why?
The only reason that I've even heard of this series in because of Saki being an Assist Trophy and Mii Costume in the Super Smash Bros. games. Other than it being an on-rails shooter that has a blond guy named Saki Amamiya in it, I know absolutely nothing about the series. In fact, now that I think about it I don't think I've ever heard of Treasure or any of those other games you mentioned. I guess now I have something to look up when I feel like it.
I think a part of me on the inside just died knowing there are people out there who have zero idea who Treasure is.
Such an overlooked game man. It hurts but Treasure has gems like this and Ikaruga which are timeless classics. Doesn't change the fact I still suck at these games though
