Consider that, if you feel at all thirsty, that is the first step towards dehydrated - it is only partial dehydration, but it is still a signal that your body requires water. Given how quickly the human body uses and recycles water - and how much it can lose due to perspiration - keeping a consistent intake is paramount. Certain people have also been known to become irritable whenever they are hungry or thirsty, so the longer someone goes without sustenance, the more erratic their minds may become, until they are satiated. Don't try to deprave yourself of sustenance to try and 'tough it out' - if you need to drink water, then you need to drink water. A human can only survive about five days totally deprived of water before expiring, probably because a human is roughly 70% water by weight. And have you ever noticed how heavy water can be? Despite its low molecular weight of 18.016, you'll find lifting a decently-sized container of water is no easy feat - and water dispensers tend to be large because humans require so much of it just to live. As a parting trivia tidbit, the reason people will die of dehydration after ingesting seawater is because the high concentration of Na+ ions outside the cells causes water inside them to osmose outward, thus the cells shrivel up and wither - a process called plasmolysis. Don't underestimate the power of water. Those who do, or who otherwise mock it, run into strangely ironic downfalls.
Water SUCKS!!! Gatorade is better! GAAAAATTTOORRRRRRAAAAADE! I usually drink upwards of half a gallon a day, unless I'm sick. Then I drink some white soda, a good deal of power/gatorade, and water. A good trick is to use mio for some flavoring, that usually has me chugging down a good deal.
