GSC introduced two new types to the game: dark and steel. With the several new Pokémon introduced in Johto that were of one of these types, a few older Pokémon were retyped to fit the updated type chart (such as the Magnemite line).

Which of the two types did you like more, if any? Did you use a steel or dark type on your GSC team? How large do you think the impact of these two new types are?

I'm not sure if I had any preferrance with the two types back then but I've used them both. Magneton, Skamory, Umbreon, Murkrow, Sneasel, Steelix, Scizor and Houndoom I've used them all at least once in the gen 2 games.

Steel and Dark made everything way more interesting and did something about Dragon and Psychic being OP, so they certainly had a decent impact on the games. And of course I like steel better XD

I was never a big fan of Steel types, and I don't particularly care for them today. Dark types are okay, but I didn't really use them in Gen 2. The only one I used was Umbreon, but this was after I beat the game, and it was just so that I could beat Red's Espeon.

I really liked the two types when they were introduced, and I still like them now! I used an Umbreon on my teams often in GSC, and I liked the design of Skarmory as well, even though I never used one.

Dark and Steel type were vital back then, for they were the answer to effectively countering Psychic types. A lot of people complained about these new types, but I didn't mind them. I found a little more interest in the Dark type, but Steel types were cool too. I remember using a Houndour and Steelix.

Steel and Dark type are really cool, and they gave a lot of new options for Pokémon designs. Without those two types, there wouldn't be as many cool Pokémon as there are now. I like the addition of new types in later generations, so I don't think it's unlikely for them to do it again in a later generation (as we've seen with the Fairy type in Gen VI)

I like the two of them, but steel type is weak to another one of my favorite types (Fire.) I really like dark-types, though. A lot of my favorite Pokémon are at least part Dark-Type; Zoroark, Absol, and Umbreon.

I was pretty confused to see these as a kid, but it was a cool addition. Much needed types, honestly.

I really like both Dark and Steel types, as they have their own little niches. Dark resists Psychic, which is great for Zoroark's Illusion, and Steel is very defensive while not being as sucky as Rock-types.

Skarmory was the (second) best Pokémon on my team. Steel wing, Steel wing, Steel wing, St- well you get the idea. I really liked umbreon as well so dark and mysterious

These two types are two of the coolest types and I'm really glad that they were added to the Pokémon games. I couldn't imagine Pokémon without them at this point because of how involved they are.

Also, the fighting type became more relevant as a result, so that's cool too.

Dark has to be my favorite type ever, and if it wasn't for these new types, there wouldn't be amazing Pokémon as there are now.
    There wouldn't be any Mightyena~
