"My friend is in danger--I have to help!" The two stared at eachother for a moment or three in silence before X's lips cracked into a grin and the silence was broken my the sputtering of restrained laughter. "Save that excuse for people who don't know you don't have any friends," he said. "This shit is the kind of thing a friend would do for ya right? Well I don't have any huh. I have my stories to watch anyway," Y said back. "Come on dickslit just help me move this, less than an hour, how often do I ask you to do things?" "Whenever my stories are on." Y stretched and spit into the dirt. "I'll pay you" "You're poor" "Depends what ya think wealth is" "Better mean what I think you mean," spoke Y through pursed lips holding a cigarette "Yeah, so grab the handle and move your feet." And so the smelly crate was moved that day over sun-baked streets, trudging along at the pace of Boy X and Boy Y. They hummed a tune the entire way to the shack-fort in the lot behind the deli, but couldn't remember where they heard it first. Indeed, they hardly gave it thought. When something's a match it's a match and the match of the day was to the subtle vibration of the smelly cargo.

This is a little scene that takes place from the world of my Professor Layton fanfiction, but doesn't literally happen in it. Serene is not a canon character, so no actual Professor Layton themes are in this prompt. There's a lot of darkness implied throughout this prompt, but her finding the clover becomes a benefit to make it a bit lighter: Serene let out a sigh. The auburn haired teenager was sitting in a oak tree, watching the town of Sacramento go by. She had a huge fight with her mom three hours ago, and during those three hours if terrified her almost to tears to be anywhere near that crazy woman. She had went to a nearby cafe beforehand, but since she hadn't had time to bring her phone with her she had nothing better to do, and spent the last half of these terrifying three hours of her life in this tree. As much as she enjoyed this tree, as it held one of the many dark parts of her childhood, she then started to climb down, feeling cramped from all the branches and the evening winds chilling her skin. She hopped off the last branch, landing on the dry dirt like ground beneath her. She pulled her hood back up before walking the route back to her house. Serene knew the path back to her house so well that she didn't even have to fully look up to know where the hell she was going; most of her focus was on the ground, not being able to get the recent incident between her and her mother out of her mind.It has left a couple bruises on her arms that didn't look like they were going to heal all that soon. Knowing how I am at school, chances are no one will notice. I'll probably tell Eric and all, but I don't want to explain this to some nosy bastards that happen to walk by me and see them. Serene decided to stop walking for a second, turning her gaze upwards. She did know this trail well, but she still couldn't quite pinpoint how far she was from her sickening home. Right before her head reached the level she attended to raise it, something very close to the ground caught her eye. Oh...? She bent down, closing most of the gap between her and the ground. Peering down, she saw- A four leaf clover. Serene wasn't all crazy about four leaf clovers, but they were quite rare, and the 16 year old has a thing for rare things. As cheesy as she may imply it to be, they did bring her some good luck; the few times she had found one of these rare grasses ended up with her getting a good grade on a test, avoiding a fight, or some other even which she could consider lucky. The auburn haired teenage let a tiny smile show on her face, picking the clover as carefully as she could. She then put it in the right pocket of her blue hoodie, putting it deep into the pocket to lower the chance of it falling out. She happened to put both of her hands in her hoodie pockets, the mere clover brushing against her right hand, as Serene was carefully enough not to crush it. Serene got up and kept walking how, a hint of reassurance on her back, hoping her mom wouldn't give her any more bruises the second she stepped into the door.
