This came to mind when I was looking at the next MTG set which is all about big crazy monsters. Video games have a lot of those! Sometimes a series is all about that (looking at you MH). So what are some of your favorite monsters in gaming? I know that Pokémon are considered monsters in name but I would say most don't really qualify as monstrous heh. Some personal favorites of mine design wise are: The Barroth from Monster Hunter I love the raw dinosaurian aspect of them and how they use their environment in fights. They way the move and roll is really appealing to me. Part Bulldozer part Trex and all rad. Kuro from Ori and the Blind Forest One of my favorite antagonists and she never speaks a word but boy or boy she will put the fear in you. Rarely have I felt so small as I have when she starts hunting you down in this game.
Okay so my favorite monsters vary . I love almost all monster hunter creatures. They look amazing. But can I just say. FUCK YOU NIBBELSNARF I love The Eye of Cthulhu from terraria for how iconic it is. I love the Minecraft creeper because of how anyone who doesn't play MC knows who it is The hit circle from Osu The hand of the king from Deadcells because of how hard of a fucking fight he is and makes it enjoyable. Hunters from Halo because of their difficulty and raw strength
D&D : they're not exactly monstrous, but flumphs are adorable and I love them. they are babey drow are sometimes considered a "monster" race, but they're epic too and goblins and kobolds!!! i strongly hold that they're not evil, just being bullied by bigger creatures all the time beholders are iconic, they represent D&D like creepers do in Minecraft Minecraft: endermen and the Ender Dragon are my favorite neutral/hostile mobs. The End in general is beautiful and needs an update Striders, from 1.16, are also adorable, and slimes are the ultimate babey cube mob MtG (the Ravnica setting, I don't actually play MtG but I know of some lore from D&D Ravnica): Simic hybrids are cool both in terms of abilities and flavor (Simic guild for life!!)
Endermen genuinly scared me the first time I encountered them (as like a 26 year old lol) I really like them now though. Also Simic hybrids are awesome! What a good boi!
One of my all time favorite monsters is the Abyssal Lagiacrus from Monster Hunter, what a surprise the dude that's obsessed with MH have a favorite from that seires.
