The two main legendaries of Gen 2, and in Gen 4. (HeartGold and SoulSilver)

Whilst both are incredibly strong Pokémon, which is your favorite? And, aside from favorites, which would you say is the best out of the two in general?

This is a legit hard question. Setting the Pokémon side by side and analyzing their stats, moveset, etc, Ho-oh would be the better choice. However, Silver was my second Pokémon game and I never got Ho-oh until the VERY end of the game. Because of this, I will have to go with Lugia.

I would actually have to say Lugia [3D='249'] for both favorite and what would win. Sure, it's a flying and psychic type; but, it know some neat water-type moves. x3

Ho-Oh is my personally favorite since I like it's design a bit better; I really love the colors. However, battle wise, I like Lugia. It's more of a bulky Pokémon and more of a solid fighter.

Oh! Pokémon Gold was my first ever Pokémon game so I'm quite biased when I say that I prefer Ho-Oh for the simple fact that it was my first ever in-game boss legendary. I love its design and colours as well as the fact it is a Phoenix Pokémon; sacred ash! Boo yah!

I do like Lugia as well and I like it because of the movie Pokémon 2000 because he looked so cool and powerful!

Favorite is Ho-Oh, but unfortunately, Lugia is the "best" because it got its own movie and is (usually) better in the competitive scene.

Probs lugia, since The Movie 2000 made it so cool. I would like if Ho-oh would be in the movies as well, however I am not sure why and when.

Ho-Oh is absolutely beautiful. I love its concept and backstory, definitely my favorite big legendary to date. Lugia is awesome too, don't get me wrong, but there's something wonderful about that majestic and rainbow fire phoenix that draws me to it. <3 Plus Ecruteak is the best Pokémon town, heh.

Ho-oh, because of Rainbows. Lugia is still good, but I like Ho-oh's concept better.

Lugia because she's an awesome staff member

I'm going to have say Lugia because of its design. I have never been a huge battler with legendaries and I haven't had a chance to use these two, but Lugia just appeals to me more.

Ho-Oh is my favorite by far, but Lugia is still cool! I just prefer the myths behind Ho-Oh more, plus I like its colorful design. It's really fun to draw as well, I love drawing all those feathers, haha.

I like both, and I love how they represent the dragon and phoenix. However, I'd have to say Lugia, because while Ho-Oh has a beautiful design I like Lugia's more.

Oh man, this is a conflicting choice for me. I love Lugia because of its design, its movie, and childhood nostalgia, but I also like Ho-Oh because of its design as well, and that I've played HeartGold a lot and have developed a liking towards it through the game. I guess in the end though, Lugia wins by a marginal amount.

    BREAKS INTO THIS THREAD MAJESTICALLY.

Lugia! Lugia is the best! While Ho-oh is a very beautiful bird and definitely on equal ground with its opposing companion, Lugia can dominate against Ho-oh in all fields. While I do love Ho-oh, and it is in all due respect a formidable opponent, Lugia's stats and move sets have Ho-oh beat. It is not an understatement to address that Lugia is also more popular than Ho-oh, during Pokémon's 10th anniversary, Lugia was ranked the 9th most popular Pokémon! Lugia's design is less clustered than Ho-oh's but it has simple beauty which makes up for lack of detail. From what I've gathered, SoulSilver also sold more copies than HeartGold. While I can respect and love our rainbow turkey puff, Lugia has been my favorite Pokémon for ages, and that will never change!

Honestly, I'm quite a fan of both the flying mons, but I'm gonna agree with Aqua here and say that Lugia has Ho-oh beat in my opinion. Lugia is a defensive beast in battle, and when used right can even deal some substantial damage of it's own. Even design-wise, Lugia is my preferred of the two, both in looks and then other factors such as location and feel. Whilst I love phoenix's (my favorite type of fire elemental, and what Ho-oh's based off of) Lugia just outdoes Ho-oh for me, especially considering I'm more of a water/ice elemental person, and prefer the power of he mind over outright strength (psychic type anyone?). Lugia will always be the superior of the two to me.

Well, well, well! He he he.... both.
Why? Well, first of all we're the twins. I agree with Ho-Oh, and my sister agrees with Lugia. No arguments, though.
I love Ho-Oh's design and it's phoenix like structure. Ho-Oh is beautiful. Looking at it will gain you eternal happiness. It revived Raikou, Entei and Suicune. It shines in seven colours and a beautiful rainbow is said to appear everywhere Ho-Oh flies. I love every aspect of Ho-Oh.

Lugia? I'm not my twin, but sure, she thinks Lugia is amazing. In fact, I was going to buy SoulSilver while my sister was going to buy HeartGold, but we did a last minute swap!

I definitely prefer Ho-Oh. I always found Lugia's design a bit weird, as its wings kinda look like they have massive fingers, I never really got that. Ho-Oh is much more colorful, and it just looks better in my honest opinion. In competitive play however, Lugia is definitely the legendary to go with!

Ho-oh. Mostly because I like fire types over psychic. But I also prefer Ho-oh's design.
    Also, sacred ash.
