Following up on this thread, you can still access the GTS servers in the gen 4 and 5 games. Here you can discuss trade offers and such. You can see all current offers on this website: http://pkmnclassic.net/gts/

My current offer (will update over time):
    LF: Phanpy
    FT: Snover
    ign: Dawn

Oh, some other important details if you’re using the GTS:
    • if you see an offer for a mythical Pokémon, it is a hacked Pokémon (because it will not have an event ribbon that prevents it from being traded). It won’t break your game or anything, but I know some people don’t like hacked Pokémon.

    • also be warned, some shiny Pokémon you see/receive may be hacked. For example, I once received a shiny Huntail I could quickly tell was hacked because not only did it have pokerus, an Adamant nature, and unusually high stats, but I later found out it had all 6 perfect IVs (this would be the “competitively ideal” Huntail, and this would actually take countless hours to achieve all of these traits onto one Pokémon). Simply put, if it seems suspicious, it’s more than likely hacked.
(just a little side note: Reshiram, Zekrom, Victini, Keldeo, and Meloetta are all shiny locked in these games. If you see a shiny one, it is hacked.)

    • you can only search offers for Pokémon you have registered in your Pokédex. For example, if you’re trying to get a Wooper, but it isn’t registered in your Pokédex, there is no way to search for it.

    • you can, however, use GTS negotiations, which is a mix between a normal link trade and what we now know as Wonder Trade. You connect with a random person and can select up to 3 Pokémon to trade with them. For this, you can trade Pokémon regardless of whether it’s registered in the dex. The only issue with this is that it can sometimes take a while to find a partner, and that person may not have what you’re looking for (not to mention most people on GTS negotiations just want to trade legendaries or shinies).
