Some of you may have spotted my rambles about lost/mysterious items on Discord the other day.
Namely I posted a strange prototype Etone 'Jumpman' (now known as Mario) plush with a tag dated 1978 (Donkey Kong, the first game to feature Jumpman, was released in 1981), as well as a pair of plushes appearing to be Mallow from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
Back around 1996, to promote the game, a set of plushies were in UFO Catchers (Claw games) from the brand, Banpresto. Unlike many of the Banpresto sets, there is no known set photo showing all the available plushes-thus no one knows how many, or what plushes exist in the set. In 2010 a auction came up on Ebay Japan featuring a Mallow plush among several Banpresto Mario plushes, and again in 2016 another Mallow was spotted among other Mario plushes. Due to these Mallows being in the back there is little to go on whether or not they were official plushes or nicely made customs (or quite possibly the same plush being sold again 6 years later).
I can not be the only person here that's interested in lost, forgotten, or scrapped projects, right? This topic is for anything considered lost- film (includes cartoons or anime), video games (or anything relating, such as add-ons, un-used DLC, ect), toys, or even bits of history. Items with a air of mystery, such as located bizarre prototypes, can also be discussed here.
Note: If you claim that there's something confirmed, please add proof. Wild goose chases on fake leads isn't fun :)

One of the things I've always been really interested in was the amber room. It was a room that originally existed in the Catherine Palace in Russia, but was stolen during WWII. Yeah, an entire room was stolen. So the whole room was constructed from pieces of amber and gold and when the Nazis went through the area, they stole it by deconstructing it piece by piece and marking each piece so they'd know how to put it back together later on. There was a replica made of it, but the original one has never been found. There have been tons of theories on where the pieces of the room were hidden, but as far as I'm aware it still hasn't been found. There were theories of it being hidden in various caves or even that it was destroyed in the crossfire of a battle, since amber is flammable.

@Wolf Expert A whole ROOM went missing?? That's crazy, shame that the amber is possibly gone for good. I hadn't heard of the Amber Room, thank you for sharing this mystery! :o

I guess I'll mention another one since no one else has replied yet. This is probably a more well-known one, but it's still kind of interesting. There used to be these old ET games that did absolutely horribly, so the rumor was that all of the games that wouldn't sell got buried somewhere by the company that developed it. Turns out, that rumor was actually true. The cartridges were found a few years back and in college, when I took an archaeology class, my professor actually brought one of the cartridges in as a sort of example of modern archaeology.

@Wolf Expert Yup, the Atari ET fiasco (which affected the video game economy badly, being right before the Video Game Crash!) The Angry Videogame Nerd made a film on the excavation, if I remember correctly.

The screenshot within this photo is a mysterious GBA image that was once on IGN around 2000. Wayback Machine could not load up the page it came from, so there is no idea on if it was just a demo or a cancelled Yoshi game. :(

    >.> I'll suppose I'll bump this up with 1 found 'missing' game console!

24 karat gold plated Gameboy Advance SP, they were a part of a special deal. There was a box set of a normal gold colored SP (with a triforce and hyrule insignia painted on as well) and a copy of The Minish Cap. Some had a golden ticket to obtain the rare gold plated SP. 7 were made, 6 for this event and 1 for a gaming magazine giveaway. 2 have been spotted, one sold on a used console site and one is on the site eStarland right now for $70! Of course you have to be wary on custom-made fakes so take these sales with a grain of salt...

That's a real thing? Seems dangerous to make electronics with conductive outer casings.

@Wolf Expert Yup, it's a normal Gameboy Advance SP with a gold plate case. :u I'm guessing that it was a thin cover over a normal GBA SP, like the Pokémon cards from Burger King back during the First Movie or so..

Mega Man Legends 3 Lost Prototype
    (2010s)
Late September 2010 Capcom announced the production of a Mega Man game, Legends 3. It was to have 2 new characters, named Aero and Barrett. In October 2010 Inafune, the co-creator of Mega Man, stepped away from Capcom, needng to 'start' his life over. When Inafune left Capcom, he lost all rights to Mega Man as well.
Despite Inafune's leaving, the game continued development. A special eShop app was in the works, called Mega Man Legends: Prototype Version. This prototype was to have 10 missions, acting like a prologue to the game's story with only Barrett as a playable character.
The game was set to release in 2011, but Capcom eventually announced that the prototype edition and the final were cancelled, despite Inafune's requests. The only person to have played both versions was Chris Hoffman, a journalist from the (now cancelled) Nintendo Power.

    Daredevil, a Cancelled Game
    (2003)
Daredevil (Daredevil: The Man without Fear, as it was called in the last year if it's development) was set for PS2, Xbox, and PC. It was a 3rd person beat 'em up, with a plot based around the comic plot of Elektra Lives Again.
    Plot:
It would start off with claims that Daredevil's arch-enemy, The Kingpin, has been assassinated. His apparent assassination causes a war to erupt among the gangs of Hell's Kitchen as they compete for a turn in power of the city and leads to a resurrected Elektra being blamed for being The Kingpin's assassin. Before Matt Murdock can suit up as Daredevil, his close friend, Foggy Nelson, is kidnapped. He soon then teams up with Elektra to rescue Foggy and try to stop the high rate of crimes that developed in Hell's Kitchen following The Kingpin's mysterious murder. After Daredevil rescues Foggy, he realizes that The Kingpin, in actuality, was still alive and faked his death so he can put his rivals against one and another. Realizing the truth, Daredevil sets upon The Kingpin's penthouse to confront him and fights him in a brawl inside his office.
The game was originally a PS2 game featuring several key moments in Daredevil's history, but after hearing of the then upcoming Daredevil film in 2003, it was changed. Sony and Marvel had issues but seemed to be going smoothly until new workers and a new engine was brought to the table. The game was re-worked again, and was near completion when several members left and Marvel cancelled the idea as it no longer matched their preferences.
There are no known prototypes, and the company that worked on it (5,000 Ft.) has gone out of business in 2012.

Oh, I think I have something for this topic!

I believe, back in 2013, with the release of Alien: Isolation there was the announcement of a similar horror game called 'Routine'. Basically, the premise was that you played as an astronaut stuck on a space station, and you have to find your other crew members. Based on the trailer, you had to avoid malfunctioning, murderous androids. What made it interesting, though, was the fact it was perma-death- if you died once, that was it, you had to start all over. I don't think there were any save points, either.

The concept and plot, good graphics, and horrifying trailer really got people hyped up for it. So we waited... and waited... and waited... and the developers stopped updating progress on the game entirely. Although, progress updates were already far and few in between. Before they mentioned they were having to push some stuff back for whatever reason, and I believe around March 2016 was the last update they made. Nothing on their blog, I don't think their twitter was active, nothing. It really disappointed a lot of people, and now Routine is just kinda floating around game development hell.

    Alice in Wonderland
(Partially Lost Original Draft from Disney- 1939)
Development: Draft art was drawn by David Hall, script by Al Perkins, and songs by Frank Churchill. The animatic (then called Leica reel) even had a voice cast, with Cliff Edwards playing the Talking Bottle. This draft was ultimately turned down by Walt as the Wonderland characters were monstrous and hard to animate (they resembled Tenniel's illustrations a bit too much). The tone of the story was much darker as well, with many of the denizens wanting Alice dead. Examples include the Mad Hatter and March Hare attempting to slice her with scissors and knives, her being attacked by a horde of birds, and even being put into a guillotine.
    Plot:
The film opens with Alice on a riverbank like in the final product. She eventually sees the White Rabbit and follows him down a hole leading to a massive void of gems, stars, and ferocious bats. The bats warn her that the Queen of Hearts will kill her if she arrives down there, but then Alice tells of her cat Dinah and her eating of bats, and the bats flee in terror. Alice ends up racing on a great ribbon into a hall where she notices the White Rabbit entering a door. She then meets the talking bottle (voiced by Cliff Edwards) who offers to give Alice a drink of his magic to shrink her and allow her to enter the garden. She finds, to her dismay, that the door is locked. She is then given the "vice-versa", growing her immensely. The Bottle mocks her, and she begins to cry. The Bottle then flings a small shrinking cake into her mouth and she is washed into Wonderland by her own tears. She is rescued by the Mouse, and then whisked off to the island of the Gryphon and Mock Turtle and participates in the Lobster Quadrille. She then mentions her cat. They are all terrified because they dread the word "Cat". She is left all alone in the undersea forest when she sees the true source of the creatures' terror: The Cheshire Cat. He shows off his many tricks to Alice and asks her if she would want to play croquet with the Queen, promising to lead her there. She meets the caterpillar who offers her some advice. He introduces her to the shrinking and growing mushrooms. She eats one of them and shrinks until she is only a head and feet. Her tiny, T-rex arms desperately reach for another mushroom to eat, and then she grows and grows until her brontosaurus neck reaches through the trees, and into a bird's nest. Several bully birds are picking on a baby bird with more than a passing resemblance to Donald Duck. She shouts at the bullies and they have driven away. Alice asks the grateful baby bird to retrieve a mushroom so she can grow small again. The bird nearly chokes on the mushroom before growing to a gigantic size and confronting the bullies, who are now attacking Alice. The bullies are scared off and Alice is given a mushroom to shrink again. Continuing through the woods, Alice encounters many creatures, including a soldier centipede mounted on a spider and a large puppy. The Cheshire Cat ends this by scaring off the puppy and telling her where to find the Mad Hatter. Alice heads to the iconic Mad Hatter signpost and then finds her way to the Mad Tea Party. While the party is initially civil, it turns dangerous when the White Rabbit arrives. The Mad Hatter and March Hare completely ruin his look before turning to Alice. Suddenly, they prepare to slash off Alice's legs with a knife and scissors. Alice screams in terror as they attempt to chop her legs off. She escapes through the tabletop, which leads to a dark and gloomy wood. Then, she encounters the unsuccessful Monkey Gardener attempting to pick eggs from the ground. As she investigates the garden, she finds out she is finally at the White Rabbit's house. Getting inside, she tries on many strange glasses in her search of new ones for the White Rabbit. She also finds some cookies, that give her a familiar sensation of growing, just as the White Rabbit is conversing with Mary Ann. When she has grown, she grabs the White Rabbit, as Mary Ann sends for an army of Wonderland creatures (amongst which is the Centipede from earlier) to take down Alice. Bill is sent in to investigate by a terrified fire chief, but is kicked out and fired like a missile by Alice into a fire engine, which is sent chuttering into the distance, startling Alice, who drops the White Rabbit. She turns to see Bottle laughing at her misery once again. Many rocks are flung at Alice by the army of creatures, annoying her. The terrified Bottle patches himself up after being struck by a stone and proceeds to shrink Alice. She ends up escaping on a literal battering ram and resumes her quest to get to the party. Alice encounters the Fish-Footman and Frog Footman, as they discuss invitations. Alice gets inside the Dutchess's house and discovers a huge crisis going on with the Dutchess carrying her screaming baby as the cook is going mad with cooking and agitation. They play a grotesque tune using the baby as an instrument before Alice saves the baby and carries it out. The whole time, the Cheshire Cat is watching. In an instant, the baby changes into a pig, and Alice comments that it makes a lovely pig, but a dreadfully ugly child. The pig races up a road of cards that Alice follows. Finally, in the garden, she sees gardening equipment operating by itself, just before the White Rabbit bugles for the Queen of Hearts. Croquet begins, as everyone in Wonderland participates. A royal procession of doom leads to a dark trial, where Alice is put on trial for unknown reasons. She watches as the Cheshire Cat, Mad Hatter, and March Hare sentence the Knave of Hearts to being blown to bits. Alice is then sent on the run but is captured by the Queen and then put on the guillotine. Just as the blade falls down, she wakes up from her nightmare and awakens back in her world.
Some songs have been 'recovered' in the limited release album called "Disney's Lost Chords, volume one" although no official demos have been located.
    Songs:
    "It's Crazy to Be Sane"
"Lobster Quadrille" (in the album, and the tune was re-worked into the song "Never Smile at a Crocodile" that was used in Peter Pan)
    "Garden Snips"
"Alice in Wonderland" (not the same as the final song, present in the album)
    "Pepper Lullabye" (in the album)
"Mock Turtle Soup Song" (in the album)
"Alice and Bottle" (in the album)
""In Wonderland" Theme" (Possibly 'Alice in Wonderland', only mentioned in script)
    "Falling Theme" (only in script)
    "Bottle Theme" (only in script)
"Alice's Shrinking Theme" (only in script)
"Alice Growing Theme" (only in script)
    "Quadrille Accompaniment" (only in script)
"Screwy Revision of Growing Theme" (only in script)
    Availability:
In 1944, 30 of Hall's original draft illustrations was used in the book Walt Disney's Surprise Package, which also told the original story. This book is quite rare and hard to find. In 1986 a full sized reprint of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland came out with dozens of Hall's drawings. In 1995 the Archive Collection Laserdisc contained a recreation of the animatic, abit incomplete as the last quarter of script has gone missing. (This has never been re-released, either) The songs were available in the same disc, although in a separate section as well.
A later DVD (Un-Anniversary Edition) incorporated an excerpt of the film under the guise of a "deleted scene" from the final draft. This was kept in every subsequent home entertainment release.

    Saved from the Titanic
    (Lost Silent Film- 1912)
Saved from the Titanic was the first film made about the Titanic, released only 29 days after the tragic event (May 14, 1912). This film starred Dorthy Gibson, a actual Titanic survivor who wore the clothes she had on on the ship. When Dorthy returned to New York she co-wrote the script and played a fictionalized version of herself. The film was 10 minutes long and involved her recounting the event to her fictional parents and fiance, as a passenger during the disaster. The actual filming took less than a week to do, using footage of RMS Olympic (Titanic's sister ship) and stock footage of icebergs. The film was a success on both sides of the Atlantic, although it got some criticism for commercializing the tragedy way too soon. The film may have had a scene that had a early natural color process, Kinemacolor, done-making it one of the earliest narrative films in color. This film is also the last to feature Dorthy Gibson, as she suffered a mental breakdown later on- possibly from having to relive the experience of the Titanic's sinking.
The last known prints were lost in a fire at the Eclair Studios in March 1914. All that remains are a few stills published in the Moving Picture News and Motion Picture World with scenes of the family and a image of Dorthy standing in front of a map of the Atlantic Ocean- pointing out the location of the Titanic. This loss has been stated by several film historians as one of the greatest losses from the silent era.
For a time it was believed that a print was found in Germany in 1998, but it was actually the 1912 film in Nacht and Eis, a German Titanic film.

Oh dear, seems that I forgot about the Forgotten Media topic. How ironic...
Either way, I was reminded of this topic's existence when a rumored 'old cartoon' was found, uploaded, and confirmed to exist.. I bring to you...
    O Parádivé Sally
    Aka "The Clock Man"
    (Found Czech short- 1976)
"About Dressy Sally" (Translated name) is a short animated film that was produced within the Communist Czechoslovakia in 1976, and was translated into English 2 years later. It was said to have aired on Pinwheel, which would later on become Nickelodeon, in the 1980s under the name "Sally". For a long time its existence was surrounded in mystery, and referred to as "The Clock Man".
The short was made by KRÁTKÝ FILMS, who based it off of a folk tale under the same name, by Jan Vladislav (who in turn based it off of the English tale "The Old Man at the White House"). The short was distributed around the world, however the creators had no idea where it went. It received a honorable mention at the Gottwaldov Film Festival in 1977.
It was then picked up by The Learning Corporation of America who dubbed it into English and retitled it Sally, for educational use. The English narration was credited to Pearl Peterson, it most likely ended up on Pinwheel after it was picked up by Coe Films, who then licensed that film to them.
People spoke about the film as early as 2002 online, however the huge search first began January 12, 2012 when Bungie forums' Commander Santa went to the off-topic forums (called The Flood) in search of answers about the short. The search lasted 5 years and gained a large following.
According to Commander Santa, the short involved a young boy laying in his bed, who gets snatched up by the "Clockman," a discolored, unkempt entity that emerges from the wall clock above the child's bed at the stroke of midnight. The boy, after being taken on an eerie adventure, is subsequently returned to his room before sunrise.
In 2002 a Michael W. Howe described, within a animation forum, a short involving a young girl making a deal with a wizard, after losing her red shoes; the deal is that the wizard would replace the shoes, so long as the child told her mother about the extraordinary event. Incidentally, the girl decides not to tell her mother, to which the wizard responds by emerging out of her wall clock, snatching her up and demanding an explanation. She eventually agrees to make it up to the wizard by sewing stars to be placed in the night sky, before being returned to her mother, to whom she then recounts the entire experience.
While these stories seem different, they are infact speaking of the same short- having misremembered small details.
    Timeline of Leads
    Coe Films
In 2016, Dycaite contacted Michael Karp, a writer on Pinwheel, who gave him the contact information to Tippi Fortune, the Executive Producer for the show in the early 80s.

When Tippi responded, she said that most of the films featured on Pinwheel were acquired from Coe Films. After some research, It was discovered the founder and head of Coe Films, Bernice Coe, had passed away in 2001. Looking for Coe Film catalogs and contacting old employees became the biggest lead in the search, as it was one of the two major ways to locate "Clock Man."
    Pinwheel Footage
The other, major way "Clock Man" was predicted most likely to be found was through recordings of Pinwheel episodes. Multiple users tried to track down home video recordings of the show from various sources, like home video recordings and bootleg DVD collections. Many users sifted through hours of these recordings; however, "Clock Man" was never found on any of them.
    The Red Shoes
The given description of the short bore a strong resemblance to Hans Christian Andersen's The Red Shoes. To summarize the story: a poor orphaned girl is adopted and cared for by a rich woman; she soon becomes spoiled. One day, her caretaker decides to buy her a pair of new red shoes, and soon the girl becomes obsessed with them. The girl wears the shoes to church, but is scolded by an old woman (perhaps a nun) and is told to only wear black shoes to church.
Despite this, the girl decides to wear the shoes to church again, and this time, a red-bearded soldier talks to the shoes, saying "Oh, what beautiful shoes for dancing, never come off when you dance." After this, the girl's shoes begin to dance, and she can't stop the dancing and suffers misfortune. The girl later gets her feet amputated, but the shoes still dance anyway. The girl asks for forgiveness before she is finally exalted into heaven.
There are many strong themes that are shared in common with the accounts - namely the theme of not being spoiled, but also the theme of a bearded man, a mother, and red shoes. There are major differences; in the retellings of "Clock Man," the punishment involves the girl sewing stars for the night sky, whereas in Red Shoes, the punishment is misery or even death. It was thought possible these were altered, as it was a children's short. This turned out to be a false lead. The Red Shoes has been parodied/homaged since the 1940s. It was previously speculated that the short originated in Denmark and was dubbed into other languages, including English, before being picked up by Nickelodeon.
    Irish Origins
There was a report that the "Clockman" in the short had an Irish accent and was supposed to be a leprechaun, and did an "Irish Riverdance." While there are no exact matches that describe the short in Irish folklore, there are some running themes, such as a cobbler, or shoemaker. This turned out to be a false lead as well. It was thought possible the short was animated in the Republic of Ireland or the United Kingdom, and could possibly be a hybrid of Irish folklore and the story of the Red Shoes. Now that the short has been found, the "Irish Riverdance" testimony seems to be unreliable.
    Le Bonhomme Sept-Heures
At the time, many shorts from Pinwheel came from Canada. The known "Clock Man" plot was thought to have possibly been inspired by Quebec Folklore. In the story of "Bonhomme Sept-Heures," (The Seven O' Clock Man) a man hides in a child's room and steals them if they fail to go to sleep before their bedtime at/or after 7:00 PM. One anonymous commenter described the short, recounting that the Wizard's name was "Benjamin," but they could have initially misheard a narrator says his name was "Bonhomme," LMW members predicted. Pinwheel used the National Film Board of Canada's media and "Clock Man" was thought to have been among them. Later, a short made in 1984 or 1985 was located on WorldCat called "L'Hiver, ou Le Bonhomme Sept Heurs" or "Winter, or The Seven O' Clock Man" as a part of a compilation of shorts based upon the Jiji and Pichou books. This too was a false lead. The short was recorded off of a VHS tape and uploaded by LMW user TOMYSSHADOW, but unfortunately, it did not match closely to any accepted description of "Clock Man."
On December 10, 2017, LMW forums user NitrateNerd discovered a YouTube link to the infamous film after searching for the short on WorldCat (a worldwide library catalog), while looking for a synopsis for an educational film titled "The Wizard", as a possible lead. Instead, after several pages of results, a listing for "Sally" showed up, with a synopsis seeming to match Clock Man. After a quick google search, he found it was uploaded by the current owners, AAA studios on YouTube. Eleven days after its discovery, Commander Santa confirmed it was the same short he'd seen many years ago.
During the search for the English dub, several people noted the company that produced the dub, The Learning Corp. of America, was shut down in 1990 following a series of acquisition by New World Entertainment. New World later sold parts of its library off to various companies, including TriStar Television (for its TV shows); TransAtlantic Entertainment (now part of Lakeshore Pictures) and Paramount/Viacom (for TV syndication of its older movies.)[12][13]

Some of Learning Corp. of America's films were acquired by Pheonix Learning Group, but they have confirmed that Sally is not one of these films.

On 11 January 2018, almost exactly a month after the Czech version was found, the English dub resurfaced online following discussions between LMW user, TOMYSSHADOW, and A/V Geeks - an educational film preservation organization who had the dub in their collection. An HD version was acquired from them one week later.

A English dub has been uploaded onto various sites, including DailyMotion

Differences Between the English and Czech Dub
The English dub made several minor changes to the opening scene when Sally is in the window. The opening titles were translated, but the closing credits are still in Czech.

It stays somewhat true to the original; the most noticeable change is instead of a baritone male voice as narrator as in the Czech dub, the English dub employs a higher pitched older-sounding female voice.

Another change was The Wizard's name. In the Czech dub, he is only referred to as a "small, black sorcerer." In the English dub, he has the name "Mr. Kadabra."

The last major change made in the dub is the loss of subtly in the moral of the story and the dialogue. The English dub was made for an audience of young school children, so the creators of the dub tried to make the message as clear as possible.
