Group RP The Jeweled Champions and Friends (IC thread)

"That's everyone..." Brock mused as he cued the opening music. "Hear now the exploits of the Jeweled Champions and Friends..."

He reached for a book. "We'll get started with the adventure 'The Slaying Stone'--adventure code K5, for those keeping track."

Once the overture faded away, Brock next cued some ambiance of a stormy night, complete with the occasional rumble of thunder. "You guys have traveled together for some time. But on this particular night, you were unlucky enough to get caught in a storm."

He then reads the adventure's introduction. "A cold wind whips at you and tears at your cloaks. The moon is shrouded behind a gray haze , and you hear Mightyenas baying in the dark woods all around."

As if on cue, a faint Mightyena howl pierces through the simulated storm. "Against the dusky sky, you can just make out the shadow of a low tower. A lantern burns in one of its windows and begins to sway, beckoning you towards the safety of shelter."

He asks the group "Do you guys want to head for the tower now, or do you guys want to visit for a minute? Remember, your characters have traveled together and had many adventures together, so try to reflect this in your chats."

After conferring for a moment, Serena tells Brock "We will continue onward to the tower--we will talk more there."

Brock bristled at an encounter in the adventure book. "Out of character for a second..." he began as he faded out the storm ambiance. "Would you guys want to fight now, or wait until you get your objective?"

"What would we be facing?" Serena asks

"A Mightyena pack." Brock replies.

"That's not too hard, but a fight out of the gate seems unfair." Misty cautions.

"Yeah--save the fights for when we get our objective." Ash agrees

"I do take a page from Wayfarer, Chambers and Charizards' cousin, in that you can get experience for any meaningful action you do." Brock explains. "This really opens up a ready made adventure in giving you guys more choice in how you achieve the adventure's objective. So in every adventure we play, you will have a main objective and maybe a few side objectives depending on the adventure. How you achieve these objectives is totally up to you."

Brock checked the results of a poll to the audience. "Seems the audience agrees with you guys--an encounter out of the gate is unfair."

After cuing some indoor storm ambiance, he called "Back in character, guys."

"The three·story stone tower belongs to a young ritualist named Treona." Brock reads over the indoor rain ambiance. "She invites you guys into her sitting room, where a fire roars in the hearth. A regal man in his mid forties descends the stairs to join you, and Treona introduces him as Kiris Alkirk."

"Treona tells you guys she's been keeping an eye on you, after hearing news of your exploits." Brock reads more text over the ambiance and the visual on the screen of a cozy fantasy house. "She explains that she and Alkirk need competent risk-takers to recover something for them. Alkirk is the last heir in the Kiris line, the rulers of the fallen town of Kiris Dahn. Eight years ago, Alkirk, Treona, and the citizens were forced to abandon Kiris Dahn. In the face of an overwhelming goblin invasion, the populace scattered to other settlements or secluded lives."

He continues "The goblins took over Kiris Dahn and live there today. Before the goblins came, the Kiris line had exhausted its supply of slaying stones, powerful items that used magic to kill the town's greatest enemies. The town had eight of them, and all had been spent to destroy various threats. The goblins came in great numbers, and there was no stone to frighten them off. While studying obscure historical texts, Treona found references indicating that there were actually nine slaying stones, not eight. Treona wants you guys to find and retrieve the remaining stone so she can destroy it using a ritual she has devised.

Brock next projects a map on the screen for everyone to see. "Treona gives the characters a map, and explains that the goblins live primarily in the northern sections of the town, so it will be easier for the characters to travel through the southeast. She thinks the slaying stone likely rests within the old library, one of the temples, or the Kiris estate. All of these are outside the areas where most of the goblins live."

He then gives the group two objectives. "Your main objective here is to find and destroy the last slaying stone, or bring the used remains of it. A side objective is to find some arcane writings somewhere in the ruined town."

"The identity of those that created the stones has long since been lost." Brock replies in a mimic of a young lady for Treona. "I suspect that something may have directed the goblins to take the town--if you find this leader and defeat it, surely the goblins will flee, and we can rebuilld it."
