Inspired by this thread, what are some games you wish had a TV series, or a better TV series than what it got? What do you think they would be like?

To start, there's PLENTY of material for new Mario and Zelda cartoons. Mario could hypothetically use the New series (pulling from the DS, Wii, 2, and U versions and maybe some new ideas for episodes.

3D World would probably be the closest in spirit to the original Super Show--there's plenty of possibilities to expand on the Sprixie Kingdom beyond what we see in the game

Odyssey would potentially go one of two ways--an expanded retelling of the game (with some new kingdoms on top of the existing ones) or a "kingdom of the week" adventure comedy with a mix of the real kingdoms and some new ones.

Zelda has TONS of possibilities--Breath of the Wild and its upcoming sequel could easily make for several seasons of a TV show just from the existing material. Other games that might work for a TV show include A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and the Oracle games+Link's Awakening.

I normally make super long posts, but I don't have much to say beyond this - Smash Cartoon. Please. Just give me a cartoon with all of the Smash IPs involved. Everyone who wants a Mario, Zelda, Metroid etc. cartoon now gets what they want all in one package.

Given how previous video game cartoons have turned out like Legend of Zelda or Super Mario it's best to simply not have them IMO. It's kind of the same thing as video game movies if they don't follow the game which the vast majority don't they end up with that stigma whilst still trying to use the game as a selling point and tend to have lower production value. The live action Resident Evil likely would have done better if they didn't attach Resident Evil's name to it and just sold it as a horror film series another that surely would have done better was Warcraft there wasn't anything intrinsically wrong with the movie, but it was considered a failure overall and that's largely from complaints how it didn't follow the lore of the game well enough upsetting those it was mostly marketed towards. Tie-ins are all fine and well, but if you're going to be a tie-in you have to make sure you're actually a tie-in and not simply using the name to cheaply broaden interest towards it as a way to cut corners when it actually comes to the material and even recent history shows that the market simply isn't at that point yet as a whole and you only get a few that happen to squeak by as passable video game tie-in films/shows. In terms of cartoons calling it as such gives inherent connotations that it's for a lower age demographic so there are likely better terms for it if you want to broaden the potential appeal. Whilst it may be inaccurate calling it an anime would eliminate some of the age stigma that is attached to the term cartoon or simply even simply calling it an animated television show could get past it which something like Family Guy calls itself an adult animation. As such being a cartoon even if it were a 'good' one I'd likely not watch anything that would conceivably put into such media simply being out of the age demographic. Touching on the mention of Breath of the Wild that'd likely do better as a largely budget movie rather than a 'cartoon' or even a television show in general, it could fair as a sort of OVA on a streaming service similar to what they did with Castlevania, but simply seems more conducive to a larger scale project which then it risks the same issues Warcraft had and to the general audience if it succeeded it'd get lumped in with Lord of the Rings which is a tough act to follow by most opinions in the fantasy genre and if they wanted to keep the Nintendo appeal attached which is inherent using a first party IP like that it runs the risk of toning down content to make it more suitable for a younger crowd which certain ways to do so may work for games, but don't necessarily work for a movie. In a game if you stab something and there's no viscera or anything that's all fine and well and can be overlooked pending on what age rating you're going with in a movie there's some level of expectation that when you stab somebody something happens and more graphic displays of violence would inevitably potentially move it out of a younger demographic whereas trying to keep true to the game it'd get branded as toned down and suffer with an older audience who still may be fans of the game itself.

I would love an anime about Trace Memory... but it’s only wishful thinking

I feel like pretty much any Nintendo property could work as a cartoon. Mario and Zelda could both work as episodic series similar in nature to the old cartoons but with better writing and production values. Zelda in particular could probably work as something similar to Adventure Time where it starts out mostly episodic but gradually shifts more towards more story and character driven arcs as it goes. Metroid could work well as a Samurai Jack-esque series with more minimalist storytelling that lets the animation speak for itself most of the time (admittedly I've only seen a couple of episodes of Samurai Jack). Fire Emblem could work as a more series, plot driven cartoon with a solid storyline. Donkey Kong could be something like the old cartoon only actually good. Animal Crossing could work as a series for younger children. Kirby already had the perfect animated adaptation and nothing could live up to that, but a new series could be neat. Pokémon clearly has no potential for a cartoon series.

I kinda want to see a rebooted version of Kirby Right Back At Ya. It would keep all the characters, but have new adventures and be animated better. But if they don’t have Dedede’s same voice actor I’m not watching

I feel that video game shows/movies are difficult to pull off, but some have proven that they can work already. I feel that a series like Fire Emblem could be absolute gold if given another shot to be an anime/tv show. There are a ton of stories to choose from, characters to build, and a world already in place. I feel like the potential here is pretty endless.

I think the most important part of a video game movie/show is for it to thematically match the original source. That's why the old Zelda and Mario series were so bad, because thematically they were everywhere except where the games were.
The thing about Mario and Zelda that might be hard is that many of the characters are lacking in, well, character. Maybe begin with a game that has strong characters, but a simple enough plot (or at least a plot that starts out simple, and maybe gets progressively more complicated). Two game series that come to my mind that I think could easily be good tv shows are Banjo Kazooie/Tooie (Distinct characters, easy to follow story, as well as colorful and creative worlds), and Undertale/Deltarune (Not as easy to follow of a story, but distinct and likable characters, and a creative circumstance, as well as good messages).
To be fair though, I said the Banjo games because I like them, so it would be cool to see them as a tv series, and I said Undertale/Deltarune because I sincerely think that they could make a good show.
