As for the third-year Hansen, he took a seat at the stool behind the keyboard (assuming the curtain was still closed and/or the spotlight was still on Azura, that is). This particular song, Chaos and Abyss, demanded him to be seated because, well, it's easier that way with such fast-paced music.

Meanwhile, Kamui's siblings could be seen among the excited audience. There were the resident royals -- all four of them, and there was this whitehead boy with a messier hairstyle than Robin's who came all the way from Nachtstadt. Apparently the latter knew about this event from his twin sister and came at her invitation, so here he was in the sea of people at Shirasagi High's courtyard.

Music, talking, and cheers alerted Maya that the show would be starting soon. "Just Be Friends" worked well on the electric, so she tuned that first. Once the electric was ready, she next tuned the acoustic, taking deep breaths to ease the butterflies in her stomach all the while.

"So, without further, please welcome our first guest!" Azura shouted as she exited the stage, handing over the spotlight to Kai. The cheers echoed throughout the courtyard as the monitors above flashed the title "Big Han-san" in admirable fashion. Some of the backdrop lighting changed to Blue. The camera view changed so that attention was now on where Kai was positioned, and so were the lights.

As for Kamui, she had yet to actually meet her twin brother somewhere in this sea of faces. Moreover, Kamui was standing almost at the front of the stage with two cyalume penlights in her hands. Like the crowd around her - with the exception of her watchful escorts - she had changed them to so that the entire audience was a sea of Blue coloured glowsticks. It was definitely a sight to see so many lights matching what was supposedly Kai's theme colour. There was a kind of energy that the sticks gave off when there were so many of them out there!

Watching from backstage, Robyn and Robin took a deep breath. Even though they weren't on stage yet, they couldn't help feeling a little stage fright in this context. This festival really was a big deal, after all! To take their minds off things, they adjusted the headphones just so they were comfortable. Kai was going to kick off the club's first performance, so he better make this count! They could feel a sense of comfort from seeing so many glowsticks like this, as if they were encouraging Kai to play.

Cheers and anticipation ensued as the spotlight shone on Kai. Some of the monitors -- at least one on the stage and another one within the performer's line of sight -- now showed a Deemon gameplay screen, complete with the combo counter (with perfect hits dubbed as "charming"), the score (in percentage for this particular game) and the judgement line (i.e. a line where you need to tap the notes at upon reaching it). It was when the notes started to fall from the top of the screen did Kai's fingers started to dance on the school-provided keyboard. Smoothly, accurately, as if he was playing the game with his sister's level of accuracy. And oh, did I mention that there was a "9thchild" watermark in the video where it wouldn't get in the notes' way?

(I actually read "cheers and anticipation" as "chaos and abyss")

The majority of penlights in the audience waved rhythmically to the dramatic introductory song that Kai was playing. It came as no surprise that there were plenty of gamers in the audience who watched the the Deemon gameplay on the screen. As if on cue, the glowsticks moved as if they followed the gameplay and waved accordingly. It was like a way for the audience play along with Big Han-san!

Immediately on the internet, comments were being posted to videos made by "9thchild". Actually, it was gameplay video that was getting lots of hits and views, with comments made about the performance happening at the same time.

It looked like the introduction was a hit, judging from the livestream. Tamal smiled at the computer screen, waving a finger along to the audience's glowsticks.

Alex sat back, watching both her friend and the screen in front of him. Now all they needed was for Nora's addition to go fine. Naga, would her strings be alright? Especially that E string that had given them trouble on multiple occasions. If anything went wrong during an event as big as this...

Blissfully unaware of the comments on her videos, the girl behind Ebuto user "9thchild" joined her brother on stage a moment after he finished his solo piano. No violin yet -- she was just clapping as she fawned over the earlier performance, "Woo! Nii-chan, that was awesome! What's the song again?" Cue Kai's smile widening at his sister's fawning -- never mind that it had been rehearsed at home beforehand. "Chaos and Abyss, the second movement," he replied.

"Cool, cool, cool," Nora nodded, still with a bright smile on her face. But then the kid blinked as if she had just remembered something. "Wait-- second movement? Is there a first one?" she wondered.

"Hmm..." the older brunet stroke his chin. "Dunno about the first, but I heard there's a third one. Wanna try it?" he offered. The "dunno about the first" part was there because as far as the siblings knew, there were only two movements of Chaos and Abyss but none of them were labeled as the first movement -- only the second (the one on Deemon) and the third (the one on Cytus 2).

Following his sister's eager nod, Kai directed her to grab her violin ("Then go get your violin and we jam!" he said with a fist pumped in the air at the "we jam!" part) which she happily obliged with an "Okay~" right before scurrying off to the backstage.

Laughter and giggles could be heard from the students of Shirasagi High School in reaction to the sibling banter. Others were rather fascinated with the way that Nora was fawning in the first place.

As soon as Nora appeared on stage, some of the stage lights began to highlight a Lime Green. In response, a number of the penlights also changed colours to match Nora's appearance. So the audience was now a mix of green and blue. Then cheers followed as the monitor above proudly displayed "Han-san" as Nora ran to backstage.

From the back, Robyn and Robin smiled at the way Nora was delivering her performance. What a way to transition to the next song!

In the front, Kamui was waving a pair of cyalume penlights herself. She was having a lot of fun with this, from the looks of it.

"So! Did you guys see the gameplay up there?" Kai now addressed the audience while waiting for Nora to grab her violin. He let everyone's chatter ensue for a moment, then continued with pride welling up in his voice, "It's all my baby sister. I'm sure 9thchild's followers should know already." Yes, anyone astute enough could see him winking if the live streaming was anything to go by. And yes, he casually promoted his sister's Ebuto account as if the watermark on the Deemon video earlier was not enough.

Soon enough, Nora came back to the stage -- this time with her usual, run-of-the-mill violin in tow. The brother's eyes met the sister's as soon as she assumed the violinist's ready-to-play stance, then they nodded to each other, and the game was on.

As for the monitors, they now showed a Cytus 2 gameplay screen. Like the Deemon one, this one also featured a combo counter, the score, and a judgement line (dubbed as the "scan line"). But unlike in Deemon, the actual score (capped at 1,000,000; hence the term "Million Master" for a perfect full combo play) was shown in lieu of a percentage, the notes were represented as bubbles and the judgement scan line moving up and down the screen instead of being stationary. Also, like the gameplay video before it, this particular one had a "9thchild" watermark where it wouldn't get in the notes' way.

A dramatic tune filled the air of the Shirasagi High School courtyard such that it could be heard all around the school. Penlights continued to wave in to the beats, the keyboard, and strings. At least half of the students recognised the the gameplay on the monitors above, and the combo streak was such that they couldn't believe that it was actual gameplay footage.

On the internet and on Ebuto, comments were already flooding into 9thchild's gameplay videos... as well as the livestream.

    "9thchild is Little Han-san confirmed"
    "NORA-CHAN ^_^"
"this is the video playing at shirasagi school festival. i dig it"
"Han-san plays like can full combo music just like games"
"WHAAT? 9thchild has a big brother?"
"Love the strings. You sure she's an amateur?"
"i think... Nora-chan might have just gotten more fans"
"You don't think Kai would have more fans?!"
"love how Kai just singles Nora as a 'baby' sister XD"
"Ylisstol high school idol club making headlines now!"
"It's supposed to be a 'talent' club, is it not?"
"some say it's because the club founder couldn't make up her mind on the club name"
"Oh, so it's a girl for sure huh? We can narrow it down"
"Well well. Guess who's going to the summer scramble?"
    "them? there's a chance"
"anything to see Nora-chan onstage again!"

Backstage, Cordelia smiled to herself as she was playing with her DJ equipment to make beats and percussions to complement Nora and Kai onstage. She had her headphones on, listening to the tunes, and played liberally with her mixer add tunes where she needed to. Yes, she had laptop with her to watch the stream and keep in tune with what was being played.

Even Robyn turned around for a moment to see how Cordelia was handling things. Honestly, from the Cordelia dealt with the sound and by her looks alone, she might as well become an idol herself.

But we know all good things must come to an end. It is my queen's order (that) the girl must repent-- wait, no, wrong narrative. The same also applied to Han-san's performance which they eventually ended with gusto. And yes, the applause was still going strong as both siblings returned to backstage.

The next performance was Robin's, so there should be more than enough time for Nora to check on her next stringed instrument: the electric violin rented from Yuka Music. Kai, however, would need to do a quick costume exchange for his duet with Tamal. He'd keep the Diamond Prince's coat and shorts but the inner shirt was now a black T-shirt with the red scarf from his debut wrapped around his neck. Again, Beethoven-style.

Maya, meanwhile, was checking the tuning on both her guitars. Luckily, "Just Be Friends" was approved by the school administration, so the backup song she had prepared wasn't going to be needed.

Now that Robin was dressed up in his stage outfit, the put his headphones over his ears and put where his microphone where it needed to be. There was no need for sound check - as it had been tested during setup. The stage lights had dimmed to allow Robin to walk onstage barely noticeable while on the monitors above, the screen flashed to change from 9thchild's gameplay videos to a title screen displaying "Reflet". Taking a deep breath, Robin walked onto the stage with the light from his LED headphones catching everyone's eyes. As he walked, everyone began changing their lightpens to Plegia Purple just to match his theme. And even the backdrop was changing to a shade of purple to match.

"I love you, Robin-kun!" some girls in the audience squealed.

Something in Robyn's heart or stomach stirred when she heard that. Even so, she elected to ignore it and focus on Robin's performance.

As for the stage itself, Robin smiled to himself as the music began to play. Then his dance moves followed. Once he started dancing, the cyalume lights started to wave to the beat as well.

(Fun fact: the stage in this video is kind of what I had in mind for what our characters are playing on)
