@Kittimancy (Brock is in the kitchen--the others are in the living area with you) "Well..." Misty muses. "One year, yokai began appearing, wild Pokémon went rogue, and sects of evil martial arts grew emboldened by the chaos. Some say an evil sect has awakened a primal dragon, but no one knows for sure."
A primal dragon, huh? Haku thought as he listened to Misty. Could it be... that time all over again? he wondered, reminiscing about that one time when time and space in Shinou were messed up thanks to an evil sect somehow forcing Dialga and Palkia to fight. (I'm nabbing this part from PokeSpe DP arc's climax btw.)
@Kittimancy "This is different from the Spear Pillar incident..." Misty mused. "And at the same time, much worse, if the rumors are to be believed..." Brock muses as he brings the food to the table.
"I see..." Speaking of the Spear Pillar incident, the much-younger Haku couldn't do anything back then. I mean, he wasn't even a swordsman when it happened -- he was 100% musician back then.
@Kittimancy "We may learn more as we travel." Brock went on as he set Haku's share before him, as well as water and a variety of awada--naturally carbonated fruit or sweet drinks made near springs of pure water. (awada is basically soda in this world--worldbuilding post incoming!)
The freshly-cooked seeded Pidgey looked so dang delicious that Haku couldn't resist it with or without his own hunger. "Thank you for the food~" he said, then ate up his share of the food.
@Kittimancy "A little treat for you, for hard work today." Misty smiled, offering Brock an ornately decorated blue bottle with a brown liquid inside. The label, which had a magnificent Gyarados on it, read "Blue Dragon--Hanada's Finest Amazuppai". "Thanks." Brock smiled before opening the bottle to savor the sweet contents inside. "The brewers are right when they say it is Hanada's finest."
@Kittimancy The awada in question came from the orchards near Tokiwa, and one of the awada breweries open to the public. Tours departed the Jewel of Nature brewery every day, and those that took the tour got free bottles at the end. (ready to start the entertainment?)
@Kittimancy "Oh, that was so good!" Misty raved as a gold Ninetales and a white Ninetales gathered up the dishes, then brought them to a gaggle of water Pokémon to wash. "Yes, thanks." Ash agreed. "Thank you, Yuki." Brock smiled at the white Ninetales at it carefully took down the beautiful vina from the wall and brought it to her master. Once settled in the living area, he found the ornately decorated fingerpick box by a chair, and slipped on the sparkling crystal picks onto his right hand. Serena, meanwhile, carefully removed the gold protector from the kibakofue's mouthpiece, made a good seal over it, and started blowing some soft chords to accompany the D scale Brock was warming up on, making an almost voice like windy sound join the vina's twanging strings as Brock checked the tuning...
Haku widened his eyes in delight when he found out that the yokai hunters were also musicians. Listening to other musicians' performances never failed to excite him, after all. And then another thing drew his attention: the white Ninetales. He only had ever seen the gold Ninetales during his adventures, but not the white one. (Fun fact: okay, it's Kalino all over again is the white Ninetales the Alolan one? Haku hadn't ever seen one before, nor he had ever gone to Alola.)
@Kittimancy (In this world, what we know as the Alolan Ninetales is a rare variety that lives in the mountains. The normal Ninetales are plains Ninetales) Once satisfied with his tuning, Brock announced the worldwide signal that someone had a story to tell: "Once upon a time, something happened. If it hadn't happened, it wouldn't be told." (he plans to tell a tale featuring the Tamahime, with help from Ash and Serena, in a pseudo theatrical performance).
@Kittimancy "This is not a rainy day with oba-san..." Misty smiled. "This is almost a theatrical performance." "Once, many, many years ago, there was born a son to the Empress Keiko--Hikari-hime's distant ancestor." Brock began. "Since he was born in the morning, he was given the name Haru, which can mean 'sun' or 'light'. A windy D chord from the kibakofue signaled Serena's approval of the name.
Being a theater enthusiast in the first place, Haku seemed so intrigued about whatever tales his companions about to deliver. (Plus, I don't really get what that means. )
@Kittimancy (Misty is telling Haku not to expect a warm fuzzy story that Grandma (oba-san) would tell, but a tale of high adventure filled with action, drama, magic, a little romance, and ultimately, good triumphing over evil.) "From a young age, Haru proved himself to have remarkable power, wisdom and courage." Brock went on, acknowledging Ash as he arrived with an ornately decorated side blown flute. "His parents noticed that he seemed destined to do great things, and they loved him just as much, if not more, than their elder son."
Not the first child, eh? Haku wondered. He knew that it's a tale (albeit not a fairy tale), but still...
@Kittimancy "One year, not long after Haru came of age, the realm was troubled by a band of outlaws whose chiefs were two brothers that had been granted evil mahou by a primal dragon." Brock went on as the music turned ominous. "Their names are not important to us." He went on "These rebels enjoyed defying all authority, and broke any and every law they could. The people appealed to the Aiiro City to do something, but no matter how many heroes the Empress sent, not one returned successful. Those that did return alive told of powerful evil magic, and hideous beings that aided the brothers in the fight."
Shuddering, Haku somehow had a feeling that the group were about to face such things in their adventures, what with the talk about the primal dragon earlier.
