Group RP Hoenn: Land and Sea

The old man in the hut turned to the new girl. "Fishing is a way of life" He said, loud enough that both girls could clearly hear him. "Lots o youngins come here everyday to try and catch some Pokémon but they dont understand. Its not just chucking a ball at some mon and hoping for the best. Theres an art and an experience in there. Everyone who tries to learn just doesnt get it, too impatient and worried to fish properly. Making a mockery of it." The man was clearly passionate about what he felt regarding fishing.

He looked to Nora again. "If youre so sure that you can do it and respect it then get over here. I've got a few Old Rods to spare. Maybe jf you can do it I'll even give em to ya." He looks over at Emma again. "Same goes to you girly. If ya want it, show me ya can do it."

Meanwhile over by the lakeshore Crash notices the Ralts approaching him. He doesnt flee despite the fairy, cause hes a brave boy, and stands his ground as he speaks.

"I saw something in there. Somethibg I think Nora would like." He says to Kenshin in Pokespeech. "Tried to catch it. Failed. Old man says he can help catch it." He shrugs. He wasnt paying too much attention.

 

"Get back here!"
The Meowth dashed out of a small alleyway as a certain trainer and his Treecko stumbled out into the sidewalk.
The hell! How's that cat so darn fast?" Kaja exclaimed as the two glared at the Scratch Cat Pokémon, and she stuck her tongue out at them! Tick marks appeared on the pair's faces, and they began to run after the cheeky normal-type with more vigour.
"Come back here… ya punk!" the trainer growled, panting as he slowed slightly to steady his pace. The Meowth continued to sprint forward, but his own partner was tiring as well. An idea then popped in Kaja's head. "Dovah, Leafage!"
The Wood Gecko Pokémon grinned maliciously, and conjured a ring of leaves which rushed towards the normal-type, who, believing that she was in the clear, relaxed - only to be pelted by a barrage of green projectiles. The Meowth yelped, dropping her sack (wait, when did she get a sack?) of Oran Berries on the grown.
"Alright!" Kaja and Dovah cheered, approaching the downed normal-type… when a Zigzagoon suddenly raced past them and nabbed the sack before dashing away. The Meowth also fled as soon as they were distracted, leaving them with no leads. "Oh come on!"

 

[Ha, figured,] Kenshin mused. After all, Pokémon aside, what else could grab such attention like that?

[Anyway, I'm Kenshin,] the young Ralts introduced himself. [And my human over there is Emma,] he pointed at his redhead partner since day one.

Speaking of Emma though, her attention was directed at the old man. He clearly wanted to teach young folks to fish. "I- I will," Emma responded to his, um, challenge (?). Despite her stuttering, the thought of trying this thing called fishing filled her with determination.

"I'm Crash!" The Jangmo-o introduced himself proudly, puffing up his little chest. "And my human there is Nora!" He said pointing to the short grey haired girl. "We met in battle!"

The Old Man hummed at Emma's response. He got up from his chair and walked into his house, emerging with two Old Rods in his hand. They werent the best quality but still worked. He held them out to the two girls, which Nora took eagerly.

He raised a finger up. "There are three important things you need when fishing." He said, beginning a lecture. "First, yer Rod. If your rods not up to snuff how do ye expect to pull out anything?"

He walked over to a bucket her had and showed the girls its contents. Bait. "Second, ye need yer bait. You can have the best rod ever but if ye got no food init no fishs gonna be dumb enough to get in yer hook." As he spoke he scooped up some bait and attached it to his hook.

"Ye wanna make sure that when you throw yer line ye do it far. No mons gonna be hiding in the lake shore and if yer in a boat no mons gonna come near the big thing." He drops some more knowledge. He huffs as he swings his line out to the lake, far enough from the shore that a bigger Pokémon could come.

"Third," He takes a seat down back on his chair. "Is patience. Just cause ye casted yer line doesnt mean the mons are gonna swarm ye right away. Ye need time for them to make their move and snag up the bait themselves."

Nora listened to his explanation carefully. Shed struggle with the patience but well the award of a future team member seemed great. She did knew some fishermen in Iki but they fished for food, not companions.

She took her place beside the man. Attaching the bait, throwing the line out and waiting. Hopefully shed catch a good one out of the lake.

Emma

Emma took the old rod from the old man (pun not really intended) and listened attentively to him. His language was a bit hard to understand, but she digressed. One thing that she did know though, was the fact that fishing is essentially a test of patience. Draw the fishing line out too soon and her reward would be gone.

Emma then took her place at the other side of the old man and did her fishing as instructed. Only then did the waiting game began...

Kenshin

[Ooo, tell me about that~] Kenshin's eyes practically twinkled in awe. Unlike Crash's first meeting with Nora, Kenshin didn't really have anything to brag about his first meeting with Emma. I mean, why would he if the two first met while grieving for Emma's loss back in Illusio?

 

Crash's tail seemed to wag as he thought of his first meeting with his beloved trainer. "I was in a canyon. Don't know the name. I was hungry and people left their lunch out. I tried to get some and then Nora appeared. Must have been her food. We tackled until I got tired then she put me in a Pokéball. She's really strong and cool." The story was a little embarrassing, a dragon getting outwrestled by a short human, but that was years ago, Crash had gotten over the initial embarrassment. Now he was just proud he was the partner of a literally strong human.

And so the waiting game began. Nora propped her head on her hands, glaring at the bobber at the lake. Patience, she reminded herself.

She settled by thinking of what could possibly be in there and how well they would mesh with her. Magikarps would be expected and a little disappointing but if she could get a Gyrados it would be so worth it. She didn't think she could deal with a Wishiwashi and its school and certainly not a Bruxish. Eye bleeding pricks.

Suddenly her bobber started to move before plunging into the water. Nora got up and immediately started pulling on the rod. "Don't just pull girly." The Old man spoke up. "Reel and pull. Don't be too forceful or the rod will break!" Nora followed his advice. Pulling and reeling the rod as best she good. Whatever had latched on must be huge! Good thing she had a bit of muscle. She heaved and with a mighty pull, a Pokémon flew out of the water!

A weird turtle like Pokémon appeared on the deck, with a weird craggy shell and a massive bulbous head. The Pokémon cried, it had landed on its shell upside down and was now flailing its arms around to try and get up. "A Squirtle?" Nora wondered out loud. That was one ugly Squirtle. But it was a unique and rare Pokémon, and it was totally her style. "Go Pokéball!" She threw the ball at the Pokémon. Since it was upside down, it couldn't escape or fight as it got sucked into the Ball.

 

Kaja and Dovah groaned, both absolutely tired from chasing the Zigzagoon and Meowth (the former who, at some point passed the bag back to the latter). Currently the twain were walking along the main road at a leisurely pace, watching many people scurry to and fro as the afternoon sun shined down on the city, as if greeting farewell to the first day of this new adventure.

"We should probably be headin' back, tell Nicole that two darn Pokémon got the best of us, giheh…" the trainer sighed, his Pokémon nodding solemnly. Leaning along a nearby wall, the brunet closed his eyes, resting and listening to the sounds around him.

"Hey, have you, like, heard of that new stall by the park?"
"Oh, the one that, like, makes that delicious ice cream?"
"Like, yeah! Their Oran Berry Sundae is to die for!"
"Oh my gosh! I wish I had a Meowth that could, like, make delicious food like that!"

Kaja snapped his eyes open.

 

Jonathan rushed out of the door, he was late, how embarrassing, particularly when he lived right next to where to event was held. Still he had to make sure he looked good, particularly on the first day of his adventure. He reached the slide show as the professor started talking about the sponsorship he was offering. Looking around he noticed the stares of the people next to him, he did strike a unusual figure with his cape and dark suit and jewellery after all. He gave a small smile as he paid attention to the rest of presentation, he knew most of it but felt it was polite to listen to the rest.

When it was over Jonathan walked over and nodded to a attendant "Jonathan Unor" He said with a small smile, excited to get his Pokédex and his credit card, the money would be helpful in his journey. The attendant gave a nod and smiled "Unor, Unor, ahh here you are!" He said before handing the card and Pokédex over. Jonathan smiled and nodded as he took them "Thank you" He said before quickly getting out the way and looking them over. The Pokédex was a bit plain at the moment, he would have to find someone to make it suit his style, the card of course annoying couldn't be altered, but he would live with it. He then noticing other trainers letting their Pokémon out let Roslin with a smile. The small bud like Pokémon quickly shook itself "Bu-dew!" She cried out happily before quickly cuddling Jonathan's leg. He let out a smile and gently pat Roslin on the head before gesturing his head at the shop and starting to walk over, he needed to buy equipment for the trip.

He quickly started shopping, he already had 6 Pokéball's, a gift from his parents, and a potion, however he felt he needed a couple more so he decided to buy another 5 potions, and to be sure he bought 2 of each type of berry that healed a status effect (Cheri, Chesto, Pecha, Rawst, Aspear). With that out of the way he also looked at the tents with a critical eye, it needed to be sturdy, and large, a thing his parents warned him about is that in some area's it might be risky to let some Pokémon out as such having a large tent to allow them to be out atleast once a day would be a smart move. Having brought a large tent he paused once more to consider food, both for himself and his Pokémon. He saw several Pokémon food bags and he also saw ready made meals for adventurers like him, for honestly a pretty good price. He however decided he wanted to cook himself his own food, buying a fry pan, a couple of small pots and a box of fire starters he was nervous, he knew how to cook, atleast the basics of it, but camp cooking is a very different beast, he made sure to buy some good Pokémon pellets, so if he messed up atleast his Pokémon could eat. With this done, he bought a couple of basic ingredients that preserved well, rice, potatoes, onions and the like and with that done he went to the counter to buy them. He grimanced slightly at the price of all of this, his cooking equipment and larger the average tent cost quite a bit, but he hoped it would be worth it. With that done he left the store and looked around, wondering what to do next.

Jonathan spotted a small group of trainers and the old fisherman, Jonathan saw him around sometimes though he doesn't believe he ever spoke to him before. Noticing the old rods and the old man teaching the two how to fish, he suddenly had an idea, it would be useful for catching some Pokémon, and perhaps more importantly for him, he could catch fresh fish to eat on the trip. With his mind made up he quickly moved towards the group, Roslin right besides him, determined to learn to fish.

He quickly stopped and gave a bright smile and a bow to each of them before pointing towards the old rods then himself, indicating his desire to have one and learn to fish. "Does it catch regular fish?" He added after a second of thought, while he was interested in water Pokémon, he felt it was important to know whether this could feed him.

Roslin meanwhile quietly went up to the other trainers Pokémon and watched the conversation between them, not sure how to enter herself into their conversation, besides, her introduction to her trainer wasn't that interesting, in all honestly she didn't feel that close him yet, he was nice and gentle, but they have only known each other a few days.

Kenshin's eyes twinkled once more as he listened to Crash's story of meeting Nora. I mean, wrestling with a human? That's something a Ralts like him couldn't do. Heck, he obviously would be outwrestled himself if he did it even with a little girl like Emma. [Can't be helped. You were hungry back then, right?] Kenshin simply mused right after his new friend ended his short tale.

Emma, meanwhile, noticed a teenage boy and his Budew heading her way and saw him expressing his desire to learn about fishing while she's in her own waiting game. "Regular fish?" the redhead kid tilted her head, not sure what to make of the question as it was her very first fishing attempt. Before she could say more though, her fishing float had already moved before it sank in the water. Emma quickly pulled and reeled the rod as best as she could per the old man's instruction:

Her fishing reward (?) might be a bit lighter than Nora's, but it still felt heavy for Emma due to her thinner build. It took her quite some time until the Pokémon flew out from the water. A Marill, to be exact. Unlike Nora's newly caught Squirtle though, this Marill seemed to be rather annoyed that they had to dunk Emma into the lake by tackling her.

"WAAAAH!!!"
SPLASH!!!

Unfortunately for Emma, she couldn't swim. All she could do was to splash around like a Magikarp in her attempt not to sink. Not even Kenshin (who abruptly left Crash as soon as he heard Emma's scream) could lift her because his psychic power was too weak for it. Instead, he let out an enraged Disarming Voice at the Marill.

As soon as Emma got tackled into the lake Jonathan quickly undid the pin that kept his cape in place, dropped his backpack and jumped into the lake after Emma and quickly tried to swim over to her, he lived in the Hoenn region and had gone on plenty of beach holidays so he had no problem swimming, even though his clothes quickly started to weigh him down, he hoped they would dry quickly in the sun.

Reaching Emma he quickly turned his back towards her and tried to get her on his back "Calm down, get on my back and I'll take you to shore" he told her as he struggled to keep her steady. Despite her light weight he was already starting to feel tiredness overcome him, he hoped he could do this quickly.

Roslin seeing Jonathan jump into the lake rushed over to see what was happening and saw Ralts fighting a Marill, quickly deciding the help it let loose its only offensive attack, absorb, which thankfully would be super effective on the Marill.

 

"Thank you, come again!"
Two young adults walked away happily, eating a pair of colourful ice cream they received from a grinning vendor and his Meowth. This plan is working perfectly! the sleazy-looking man thought to himself, already preparing the latest bag of berries his Pokémon gave him. Not only do I make a profit, but I don't have to pay for ingredients either! Ohoho, I'm going to make millions!

"Hello, may we buy two Oran Berry Sundaes, sir?" In his giddy thoughts, the vendor failed to notice his new customer. Looking up, he was about to greet the newcomer but froze when he saw a certain woman smiling at him. The flower shop owner!? W-What is she doing here? "O-Of course," he stuttered, looking away from the gardener and the smirking kid behind her as he slowly reached for an ice cream cone.

"By the way, I heard that your Ice Cream makes use of top-grade berries!" The vendor blanched as he turned around, flinching at the still-smiling woman's tone of voice as she leaned towards the counter menacingly. "I wonder where you get your supply, though…?"
"I- I-" the man started but was suddenly shushed by the gardener.

"Here's what's going to happen," Nicole grinned evilly at the terrified vendor. "You're going to continue your business, only now I will supply you with berries. But half your profits go to me, and tell your customers that the berries come from the Lotad Greenery. Understand?" The vendor was left speechless and simply nodded, to which Nicole smiled sweetly and gestured to Kaja and Dovah. "Now if you will, we both still want our Oran Berry Sundaes, please!"
