Group RP Pokemon: Evolution Quest (IC thread)

So it was settled. Blacky set up a Middle Rune of the Stars on another spot near the entrance. Deep down he wanted to see this particular rune in action, so yeah.

Spoiler: For whoever running the battle

(Here's how the runes work when they're set up like that:

• Mega Rune of the Flower acts like a much more powerful Leech Seed that heals the whole party for half the damage it inflicts. It lasts up to 60 turns after the setup.
• Middle Rune of the Stars acts like a luna-type Max Starfall (or like Fumiko's Star Blazing in another RP if you know what I mean) at the end of each turns. It lasts up to 30 turns after the setup.

Both runes' (Atk + X) stat was 70 flat when I did the Moon DK battle. Feel free to adjust that accordingly.)

After he was done with setting up the runes, Blacky took out his non-elemental swords -- both of them -- and enchanted them with different spellblades: Earthly Blade on the starter sword (because this Dragon King most likely would react badly to earth attacks) and Hoarfrost Blade on the diving sword (because most Dragon Kings, being dragons, were weak to ice unless their main elements resist it). These two swords, along with the luna-type Crescent Saber, would be his go-to weapons for the upcoming onslaught with the earth-infused starter sword as his main one.

With everything done, Blacky went back to rejoin the group and take another sip of his coffee while at it.

 

"Right... So all I suppose we do now is wait," Atelier said. "If we're okay with it, Xuehua and I will take the front lines to hold off the Dragon King with our gauntlets. First, we just need to hide until the Dragon King returns to his den, then we launch the attack."

The runes were in place, after all.

That said, Blacky quickly finished his coffee and assumed his position. While he'd usually take the front lines with his trusty sword(s), he had no qualms of playing support this time around for a spin.

(Honestly, I need to look back for Blacky's stock of berries from start to now...)

 

With the clouds during a dark gray in the horizon, Atelier stared. Something was coming! He quickly downed his coffee too, like Blacky, and went to collect the cups. By then there should be enough time to take cover and ambush the Dragon King once he returned to his den. The runes would activate and the trap would be sprung, then they could attack and then draw out the Dragon King to the field.

 

Xuehua adjusted her gauntlets and tightened her grip on her Ice staff. If a full frontal assault was what needed to happen to take down this tyrant, she was more than ready to dispense one.

 

Atelier waved to his companions. “Take cover! Don’t let him see you. The time will come!” he urged. That said, he put on his gauntlets just like Xuehua.

The thunderstorms became louder and visible when the Dragon King appeared. It was heading back to its den.

 

At Atelier's urging, Blacky hastily took cover behind a big rock near where he had previously set up the flower rune. The closer this dragon came, the thunderstorms would've gotten even wilder. Yet even that failed to scare the warrior big time.

 

The Dragon King eventually came to rest in its den. The runes hadn't quite activated yet, but when they do, that would be the cue for the party to spring into action.

(Actually, these are what I have in mind for Blacky's equipped weapons:

• Earth-infused starter sword (default)
  • Basic attacks, Slash, and Sonic Boom become earth-type
    
  • Opens access to Earthly Blade and Earth Power
• Ice-infused diver sword
  • Opens access to Hoarfrost Blade
• Crescent Saber
  • Opens access to Moon Blade and Night Slash

He'll alternate between those three depending on the attacks he'll use.)

 

Xuehua set up her first barrage of attacks - first an Icy Wind, then a storm of Ice Shard to accelerate into a tiny storm of its own. She bit back the urge to scream a curse as well - not the magical kind, but some things were worth saying even if they didn't have much effect.

(Welp, I'm late for Blacky's attacks, lol.)

After making sure that both runes actually worked, Blacky finally joined in the fray by hurling 5 Gravelerocks at the Dragon King. Not exactly a warrior-worthy start, but eh. It was then followed by a Sonic Boom of the earth variety.

 

Xuehua continued her frontal assault by firing another round of her Icy Wind and Ice Shard combination. So far, so good - Aine's songs seemed to have ramped up in power, now shielding the full party. But every now and then she let one eye flick skyward, checking to see if they were in any danger of being struck by the storm.

 

"Is it just me, or did it suddenly move faster?" Atelier said to himself. Anyways, things were going according to plan. They needed to keep the Dragon King confined to the den for as long as possible while he and Xuehua held the front lines. Any attacks would have to go through them first.

Xuehua gripped on to her staff harder as the Thunder Dragon began to speed up. But so far, it appeared their strategy was working. She had to be on guard, so no Blizzard, but keep her range, which ruled out Rock Smash as a possibility. Hail could be dangerous, but... For now, she kept up her Icy Wind.

 

Seeing Atelier drinking a Potion of Magic (I'm referring to his previous turn's action here), Blacky decided to do that but with Potion of Power instead. And as soon as it's done, he switched his swords and try a Hoarfrost Blade this time.

(Fun fact: Future Blacky can do different elemental spellblades on the same sword, but present Blacky can't do that yet, hence the slight hassle on his equipped weapons.)
