Having found a comfortable seat in the library, Atelier went to do his research. His strategy to tackle the next Dragon King was ready. Now all that was left was to learn about the sword he supposedly possessed, and the gems that powered it.
@ChocoChicken Th next set of motions formed an even larger drop. The next goal was to create a flow of water.
"Thank you, sir," Blacky gave the archmage a slight bow of gratitude and ran off to a vacant practice room. And with that, he started working on his Earthly Blade.
Xuehua's face lit up when she saw the ball of water in front of her, silently cheering - and nearly dropping the water in the process. All right, she'd figured it out! Now to... figure out how to use it. She began by attempting basic shapes in the air with the ball of water - circles, lines, and waves. Every spell she'd learned had a specific sort of shape to it as a method of quick casting. Not that she'd learned a lot of spells.
Atelier ended up asking the librarian Audino for help. "Excuse me, friend. Would you have any information on the Sword of the Stars?"
@122 Generation The Audino thought for a moment. "What about that legend are you interested in? We have several accounts of the tale..."
“Very well,” Atelier said. “I want to know its part in the lore of the Dragon Kings. It’s supposedly powerful, right?”
@122 Generation The Audino nodded. "To this day, no one knows if the sword--and the legend behind it--is real or a myth. If you were to discover the tale is in fact, true...it would rewrite a significant portion of the land's early history."
@122 Generation "It would rewrite what we know about the First Dragon War." the Audino explained. "It is usually agreed that the sword did always play a role in the Dragon Wars, but the question is, how large was that role in the First Dragon War? If the sword was found, the answer would be that it played a very important role in driving back the Dragon Kings, and turning the tide of the war."
"I... I see," Atelier replied. He would have to do more research on this, but then again, if the sword was in the possession of the Fire Dragon King, that was more reason to take it. Retrieving that sword, if it existed, might make everyone's lives easier. He would have to investigate where the gems, which powered the sword, were located too.
After many failed attempts - dropping the water droplet, freezing it in panic, or just failing to create it in the first place, Xuehua decided to back off for a moment. Maybe she was using the wrong approach? She'd figured that she'd immediately found out how to use a spell, but it hardly seemed so. Perhaps she needed a new angle... She picked up her spellbook, flipping through the pages of what she'd already learned and noted. Maybe one of those could be a better starting point...
@ChocoChicken The page for Rain Dance got her attention. What if she were to try learning that first, and then Water Pulse?
@WavePearl (Quick correction - Xuehua's spellbook is self-made mostly, being more of her notebook, thus it only has the spells she already knows. I was thinking she'd get the idea from casting her preexisting spells, one being Hail, and transferring what she'd learned from water into that to first learn Rain Dance.) Some of her past spells.... Could they be water-ized? Of course, Blizzard was just out of the question, that one was half the Ice Stone. So was Icy Wind - that probably didn't really have a water-based equivalent. Hail and Ice Shard... now those were worth a shot...
Soon enough, after getting the information he needed, Atelier set about investigating the lair. It was one thing to research it in principle, but perhaps it would be more useful to visit the lair itself. He packed up his books and left the library to find Aine.
@122 Generation Aine, meanwhile, was entertaining the residents of Steamington with an episode of Ash's adventures. Someone had asked to hear about the sinking of the St. Anne, and the Island of the Giant Pokémon.
By lunchtime, Blacky had finally mastered the Earthly Blade. This hopefully could be a huge asset for the upcoming battle. He now decided to grab a lunch. (And yes, I used a slight time skip there.)
By then, after Aine had shared the first episode, Atelier had discussed his intention to her that he would head out to investigate the lair. (Ah... I remember those episodes)
@122 Generation Aine noticed Atelier approaching as the applause for her song died down. "Oh, did you find anything?"
“Oh hey, I’m heading out to the lair to get a measure of the place. I won’t be long,” Atelier replied to Aine, quietly.
